message for new members

During house keeping, I often come across questions in the Bio of new members, questions that will clearly not be seen by the majority of us unless we hit upon these by chance.  This leaves a new member without any support and answers from Pacemaker Club members when they most need it.

While we all appreciate a Bio being completed to give us some useful information about a new member, information like their reason for their pacemaker or ICD and anything else they wish to share with us, it is important that new members post any questions they have as a New Message to the Pacemaker Club, otherwise specific questions left in a Bio will not be seen.

I will continue to try to pick up all these Bio questions and any questions left elsewhere, even in older threads, and get new members to post their questions in a New Message, but I am afraid some questions may well be missed and left unanswered which is regrettable.  Thank you for your help with this and welcome to you all

Thank you Gemita for bringing up this important way for new members to communicate their concerns to the rest of us.

Also I would suggest that one should not post a comment on an old query.  As many do not go back there far to look.  I know when a new comment is posted the orginal poster does receive an email saying a comment has been posted to your query.

I wish new comments could be bumped to the top of the New Message board

You are right new to pace, I have seen some new comments added to threads that go back many years, even as long ago as 10 years ago and the likelihood of anyone picking up on any new comment or answering such a post are not very likely which is a pity.  If our messages were automatically bumped to the top of our New Message board, it would be so much easier for these to be seen and responded to.  This is on my wish list for Admin.

In the meantime, all we can do is to encourage new members to post a New Message every time they want to ask a question

You are so right

As you say, it's a great shame if a new member's questions go unanswered because the questions were posted where few will ever see them.

I have to admit that I often need help figuring out how a new website works, particularly if it's interactive. The first time I came to TPC I would have had no idea how, what, or where to ask a question. Actually, I lurked for around six months before I even joined, and that gave me time to explore the site until I knew what was where and how it worked.

Here's a suggestion. On the Home page, would if be possible to add a sentence directing people to post any questions they might have by opening Forums and selecting Post Message?

Many thanks, Gemita, for all the work and time you put in for the benefit of all of us.

Hopefully we are making progress

Yes Gotrhythm, it is amazing what I find tucked away in some of the Bio’s and attached to old threads.  It is such a shame that these questions remain largely unanswered.   I am sure we are losing some new members because of this who usually then look for instant support from Facebook sites.

I like your suggestion about a sentence on the Home page explaining to new members how to post a message.  Perhaps Post Message should be prominently displayed on the Home Page, rather than hidden away behind Forums?   I can remember how difficult it was for me finding my way around here at first too.  Hopefully we are making progress and that is what is important.  We have got notification of private messages and comments on our posts back and that is a great help.

Thank you for your support Gotrhythm and contributions

Maybe in the welcome email it could be explained how to post  a message and how to respond.?

Also explain when some one posts to your message or you post to another message.  You get an email saying someone posted to your query.  Of course when i answer thanking that person, i also get a notification that someone has posted.

My eight year old son had a pacemaker since he was 6 months old. He does very well, plays soccer, baseball, and rides his bike. I am so glad he is not ashamed of his pacemaker. He will proudly show his "battery" to anyone.
