There is quite a bit of discussion about MRIs here.  If your pacemaker was implanted in the last five years, it's almost certain to be "MRI conditional". That means if certain criteria are met, you can have an MRI.  One of the major criteria is that the leads match the pacemaker.  If the leads aren't designed for that pacemaker, the conditions aren't met.  That means that if the leads and generator are from different companies, the conditions aren't met.

You will need to go to a hospital with a pacemaker clinic to have the MRI.  It can't be done in an independent facility ($$$$). You will also need instructions from your cardiologist to the radiologist.

If you don't meet the criteria for "MRI conditional", you might still be able to get an MRI but the process gets murkier.  In either case, the agreement of the radiologist is a condition but they seem to be a conservative bunch.  They don't like it in any case and it'll get tougher without the MRI conditions met.  I'm sure the medical need for the MRI falls into the formula too.

The doctor who put in your device can tell you what the manufacturer says about MRIs.

I was just informed about mri and leads. Only certain hospitals where I live can do mixed leads.otherwise mri's shouldn't be a problem getting done.

The mixed lead issue is manufacturers not guaranteeing the functioning of their leads because of " apparent" differences in lead tech and the mri effects.

I had a pacemaker since 2002 and ever since then my life has been a total blessing.
