NERVE CONDUCTION TEST

In 2019 I had Carpel Tunnel surgery on my right hand.  I now have same problem with my left hand.  My PM was installed this Jan (on the left side).

I have an appointment next Tues (June 20th) with the surgeon that did surgery in 2019.

Some of the tests I had to have before surgery was a NERVE CONDUCTION TEST which, by the way, raised me right off the table while it was being done.

I know that the surgeon will have to clear with my local Cardio guy to get an "OK" for the Nerve Conduction.

Just doing a lttle exploring --- so I wonder if anyone has had the Nerve Conduction Test on arm for surgery??  If so, were any problems, issues???

Electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies are tests that measure the electrical activity of muscles and nerves. I've had both. No pain at all. Had them in my spine to find cause of back pain. It was very brief. It was before I got the pacemaker. 
 

You mentioned having the test to check on carpal tunnel.  I never had that, but you can't be the first with a pacemaker to need testing. A call to your cardiologist should allay your fears.

I had the tests early last year and surgery on my right hand shortly after.  I was in an auto accident that screwed up my right wrist and CTS was just a part of it.  I had plates and screws taken out of the wrist at the same time so it was a little more than CTS surgery. 

I didn't need cardiac (and neurological) clearance for the conduction tests but did for the surgery.  The conduction tests are limited to the shoulder/arm so the current doesn't pass through the chest.  I needed clearance for the surgery because they wanted to discontinue Eliquis for an extended time. The first surgery caused a lot of bleeding, a huge hematoma, and a lot of scar tissue, which was the real reason for removing the plate.

I found the nerve conduction tests uncomfortable (like getting whacked on the funny-bone) but not unbearable. It was interesting (but I find such torture oddly "interesting"  😖).

Thank you all for your feedback.  I am going this Tuesday to the surgeon to see what she wants to do.  It's a process to get all the tests, clearances etc. but gotta be done.  Thanks again.
