Breathing Problem

About one month after I got the PM, I started having the urge to take deep breaths...not really short of breath but like I had to really suck in to get adequate air into my lungs. Been reading about PM leads hitting nerves and wondering if this could be the problem. Happens off and on for no reason. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

Hi Vicki.

Just last month, I told my doctor about the same thing happening to me. She concluded that I might be oxygen starved, possibly caused by sleep apnea.
She sent me home with a pulse oximeter. It's a medical device you wear on your finger tip, that measures the amount of oxygen in your blood.
She had me wear it all night, and return it the next day. Everything checked out fine. So, no need to worry.
Like MH says, I just feel the need to take a deep breath on a constant involuntary basis.
I've had my pacemaker for 3 years, and it might have been going on all that time. I just didn't become aware of it until just recently. May be because it's happening more frequently now.
I notice it much more on high pollution alert days.

I started having involuntary deep breaths about 2 months prior to having my PM implanted. I had thought that the PM would stop them but I am 5 weeks post op and still have them. It seems as though the body has a need ot oxygenate. It is completely involuntary for me.
