Seem to have lost my taste for Alcohol

As soon as I was dianosed with heart failure my cardiologist nixed drinking. Recently since doing better and have my CRT-D I've tried a glass several times. Couldn't finish them and immediately felt sick.

I'm not to concerned if I don't have another drink but curious to know if anyone else has lost the taste for booze. Tried googling if it's a side effects of my medication but nothing comes up.

I've had a taste for alcohol alright! 50/50 what caused my cardiomyopathy, pacing induced (from my 1st device), or too much boozing :)

However, I didn't lose my taste for it. I just new it was time to grow up and move on. Since quitting (mostly) and receiving a CRT-D, things have been improving rapidly. I don't think most folks realize what alcohol can do to your heart, especially in HIGH amounts. My EP thinks it was caused more from my previous pacer, than drinking. I think it could have been a combination. I don't think there's any real way to know for sure..

I would thank your lucky stars that you lost your taste for it no matter how it happened. Some aren't so lucky and drink themselves to death.. I've known a few, sadly.

When you say a taste for alcohol, do you mean the drink as in wine, or the content, alcohol?

I too like a drink, alcoholic, with a meal and very occasionally, on its own. UK pubs are so expensive now that isn't an option, so it's drink at home.

Maybe a beer or a cider, a glass or two of a decent wine as a treat, and very rarely, a scotch whiskey, single malt when I can afford it.

All of these are chosen for taste, alcohol is secondary. I haven't fallen under the influence since student days.

I wouldn't bother though with alcohol-free wines in particular as there's no "body" to it and if I had to, I would go for a quality fruit drink.

Firstly, I have a rule. No exercise, no drink. I used to cycle like you but walk now.

I like to have something to look forward to. The last two years have been especially tough. Meals are even more important as an event than before.

I think that being in a good state of mind is as important as any other part of health.

There are health benefits from the polyphenols in red wines which form a significant part of Mediterranean diets.

Like all things in life, moderation, discipline, spread your bets.

I'm guessing that when you say taste, it's not the flavour.

Keep up the exercise.

Hello

If you are feeling physically sick, as in vomiting, I would be wondering what is going on.

It does sound that there might be an interaction either with the medication you might take, or something else body-wise.

Yes, there are specific drugs for alcohol dependency that work by causing aversion effects, but I can't think that a beer would cause a problem if consumed with a meal and slowly.

I would get it checked out in any case.

In a past employment, I acquired a bottle of absolute alcohol, ethyl alcohol, ethanol.

Absolute alcohol is 99.9% pure ethanol and without calculating, that's about 175 degrees UK proof.

It tastes disgusting and no-one in their right mind would let it pass their lips.

Of course, I don't drink the stuff and mainly use it as a skin wipe.

A little-known fact.

Alcohol is not a specific compound, it; s a class of compounds. Same as salt is a class, not just sodium chloride, or Hoover is a vacuum cleaner.

As a general rule, if the name ends with "ol", it's an alcohol. Methanol, Propanol, Butanol etc.

Of the thousands of alcohols, ethanol is the only one that can be consumed.

Methylated spirits, denatured ethanol are all made undrinkable by the addition of methanol, wood alcohol. Drinking that stuff, knowingly or not, is certainly going to lead to an early demise.
