Greetings all. I have a stress echo this afternoon at 1 pm. They said not to eat 4 hours before so I don't throw up. I've only had one before and was not pushed to the point of barfing. Haha. I'm tempted to eat some eggs soon as otherwise I might faint, not puke.
im wondering what y'all's experiences were like and if it might be ok to eat?
thanks!
Lulu

So sorry for my delayed reply, Gemita, I didn't get a notification anyone had replied.
Have a word with your clinic

Lulu, sorry I have been out all afternoon. I would follow your doctor’s advice for best results, although clearly he won’t want you fainting, so have a word with the clinic carrying out the test and ask them what you can safely eat/drink before your test?
I have had a medically induced stress echo and they were quite strict about preparation, but for exercise induced, they usually allow a light meal up to 3 hours before. I hope you have managed at least a couple of hours without food?
Good luck and please report back

Thanks, Gemita. I didn't eat anything and all went well. Took less than an hour. They wanted me to get up to 128 heart rate - 220 minus age of 69 times 85%- and I kept going but when I reached 130:my PM kicked in and my HR starting dropping so the test was cut short, kind of. Anyway, I'll get the results tomorrow and will check back in here.
thanks for getting back with me. This is a much appreciated site!!

Results of Stress Echo
by Lulu2468 - 2023-11-28 15:38:13
Well, all the info I have is from the patient portal. I have not spoken to the Dr. yet.
*Stress Echo Results: Equivocal stress echo study
*stress testing did not produce any symptoms of coronary artery disease
*estimated EF 45-50%
this was in the Todays Visit section : the following issue was addressed:
heart failure, unspecifiedHF chronicity, unspecified heart failure type (CMS/HCC).
nothing sounds awful but nothing sounds determined either....
my BP was much higher than usual. Range while there was 155/91 to 198/102😵
my BP has never been so elevated before.
anyway, thanks for your comments and help. Hope everyone is active and having a good day!
Next Step

The dr would like to do a coronary CT scan next to help determine if there is a blockage.
Thank you Lulu

Things are moving quickly for you. A stress echo cannot with certainty tell your doctors whether you have a blocked artery, particularly since your stress echo did not trigger any symptoms during testing. A coronary CT scan or the gold standard Angiogram certainly can give your doctors the information they need, so good luck.
Your ejection fraction, while a bit on the low side, is not too worrisome, but in your shoes I would definitely want to know whether I have coronary artery disease. Have you been diagnosed with heart failure Lulu? I see mention was made on your report.
Your blood pressure was definitely high, especially the second reading but perhaps it was because you were stressed before you even got to the clinic. I am glad you didn't struggle during the stress test. The coronary CT scan should be relaxing in comparison. Good luck and I hope you get a clean bill of health

Lulu, are you having a medically induced or exercise induced stress echo?
