Digoxin

Hello guys,

I was wondering what side effects you've had while on digoxin. I started it today and I started having some GI issues. Does anyone have any tips on how to help feel better? Does it get better as time goes on?

Thanks!

Digoxin

Hi Lesly97, several years ago I tried Digoxin, together with Flecainide for my Atrial Fibrillation.  My EP suggested I take Digoxin rather than a beta blocker because I was very prone to low blood pressure on a beta blocker and he felt Digoxin would not lower my blood pressure quite as much.  However I recall he told me that Digoxin needs close frequent monitoring of bloods to make sure that levels of the medication are kept within a safe range, since high levels of Digoxin in the blood stream could be dangerous.

I recall I had many intermittent symptoms when taking it, including nausea and more in the way of palpitations that it was prescribed to treat but I was started on too high a dose and when this was reduced, I felt much better.

Are you being closely monitored?  Digoxin suits many patients, but clearly not all, so please speak to your doctors if you find your symptoms difficult to tolerate, although I see you have only just started the medication so you will need to give it a little while longer?

Thank you

Thank you! Yes, I'm hoping with time it will get better. Been on it a few days now and still have the same issue of nausea and stomachaches.
my doctor did tell me about how in high doses it is dangerous but I believe I got started on the lowest dose. He would determine later on if I needed more.
I got started because of the AFib, same as you my blood pressure is already on the lower side so instead of upping my beta blocker he decided to add this on top of it. I have noticed as you've stated more feelings of palpitations since starting, even received a couple of high heart rate notifications on my watch. This is all fairly new to me and I'm just trying to see what my new "normal" will be.

Thank you for responding!
