Can a pm beep?

Hi Pals

I was lying in bed and I heard a beep. I thought I had left my mobile under the pillow. No mobile no walkabout. I lay there thinking about where the noise had come from and I am sure it was my pacemaker. Am I going nuts? The noise was like the fire alarm when it is running low on battery.

can a pm beep

yes, I just went thru this. When your batteries get to a certain level depending on how your pm is set, it will beep at the same time everyday until you get it replaced. Call you cardio dr and have it checked. How long have you had it? They have to replace the whole pm unit, not the batteries. Make sure your leads are ok, they will check that also. Just had mine changed last thurs, going to go back to work tomorrow. still very sore. take care and let us know how you make out. jbkeys

PM can beep for various reasons including low battery. my PM/ICD is set to beep at 5;00 pm if it has had to take certaion corrective actions in the last 24 hours. it will beep everyday at 5;00 until it is reset at the doctors office

Thanks for recognizing that i wasn't trying to give you a hard time. I like your attitude... that the idea of your PM working gives your security, not resentment. I feel the same way. I'm glad that I live in a time when I could be helped insiead of being left behind on the hunt because I couldn't keep up. :)

PM Beep

by Blueaustralia - 2008-04-06 08:04:23

I have had my Ela dual lead pm since September 04. I am always told there is heaps left on my battery and am given a copy of the test sheet each time. There is little curve on the battery usage which shows 3 yrs. If it happens again I will ring the tech in Hobart. I feel ok just very tired but it has been an uptight time lately with Brian's illness. I am visiting the doc next week so will get him to check me out. Thanks to all for your replies.
It was good to see the lively comment. Take care, pace well sincere wishes to all. Billie

I don't see how a PM can make a whirring sounds as there are no moving parts. It would be like your TV remote making a sound. Nice story, tho.

Whirl!

Hello Billie,
First let me say you are not going nuts.
One early morning around 4 am as I lay quietly in bed, I was very, very still.... I could hear this tiny whirling sound. It was a very tiny sound and I believe to this day was my pacemaker. It was a beautiful sound and had a very constant and continuing tempo.
It was always in the wee hours of the morning when my heart would stop before, for 5-6-7-9-8 seconds. Never stopped the same length of time but not fewer than 5 sec. though. It was then that I began to sleep soundly again.... as I knew that my "little buddy" would keep me safe.
