Hi all, recently I was at the dentist having a check up when we got on to talking about laser teeth whitening. Does anyone know if you can have laser treatments such as this or hair removal, eye surgery etc.. does the laser somehow interfere with the PM. Seems unlikely?
Thanks

I was looking into laser hair removal, and found out that most of the machines use radio waves that could (would) interfere with pacemaker operation. Only one machine at the place I checked out did -not- utilise radio wavelengths. You would think "laser" would indicate primarily light wavelengths, but apparently not.
I don't know how this applies to teeth whitening equipment, but I would definitely ask about use of radio wavelengths as well as checking with both your doctor and Guidant.
The place I checked out also required a filled-out consent sheet, and when I ticked "I have a cardiac pacemaker" I was required to get signed consent from my doctor before I could go under the machine.
I didn't go through with the hair removal do to constriction of funds :P

Bad hair days can be blamed on your device shorting out.

We are very lucky to have these devices.
Use of laser

Hi Stu,
Recently I had knee replacement and the physical therapist used the laser on my knee to break up the tissue. She could NOT do the electrical stimulation that is favored by most therapist because of the pacemaker.
I had also heard that we could not use a SonicCare toothbrush because there is a magnet in it. Turns out, per a Guidant rep, the magnet is actually in the base of the unit which sits on the counter. I'm not sure I trust Guidant for the answer. There is not a magnet in the actual brush mechanism which is used close to the PM.
