Hi, I'm new to this. Had a PM put in 7 weeks ago, I guess I was wondering how long till the pain goes away. Its a sharp burning pain and i have a hard time with seatbelts, bra straps or anything that touchs that spot. Also is it normal for it to move, it seems to be right next to my shoulder and I don't think it was that way before..Not sure whats normal..Thanks Stacy

It does get better

Hi Stacy, Welcome. ;-)
It will take some time to adjust. I switched to a strapless bra to help me through the healing process. I also used one of the padded seat belt covers to get me through as well. Now a few years later I don't remember how long it took. It seems that it was only a couple of months.
Hang in there, because you are not alone.
Here's to a speedy recovery!

Hi Stacy,
Is it your incision site that is painful or deeper than that? My site was quite irritating for a time but I don't remember a "sharp" pain. My site stayed red and became bumpy and at my six week check up they said I had a keloid scar. It has faded and looks much better now but it did hurt and stay irritated and itchy for several months.
Others have posted on this site about moving pacemakers. I have had mine a year and I think it may have shifted a little toward my shoulder but I am not sure.
I know 7 weeks seems like a long, long time but this is all still very new for you. Like pacergirl said, it does get better. There are lots of people on this site who can help you as you adjust.
If you are really concerned, call your doctor. Have you had your follow up appointment yet? I had a lot of my questions and concerns taken care of at that appointment.

Sharp Pain

Hi pacegirl,
Sorry you are having any kind of sharp pain.
There are a lot of nerves in that pectoral muscle and it may be one of them you feel.
A strapless bra is great for a while, but when you get new ones, ask for the "french strap", it angles off the pacemaker site and does not ride on it at all. I went to a specialty lingerie store that offers attractive bras, and showed the lady my scar/site and she knew immediately which styles to choose and there were a lot.
Good luck and as one of the postings mentioned, healing is so individual, it takes a few months. I also would suggest wearing a bra to bed at night to avoid the pull on the site when you lay on your side. That pull on the pect muscle could irritate it enough to put out a sharp pain message.

when i joined the site early last september she was one i talked too and she was still having difficulty adjusting to it and with sleeping. we all heal at different rates, don't be too hard on yourself. it takes as long as it takes and some have complications. welcome to the site and i wish you a speedy recovery jessie
