Hi Everyone,
Well, the deed has been done. I got home about 4 hours ago, and am now the proud owner of a St Jude Medical 5826 PM, with an IsoFlex S 1645K Atrial lead and a St Jude 1688TC ventricular lead. I have no idea what any of the numbers etc actually mean, but apart from a very achey left arm, I feel great - Yey!!!
Valerie, can I add my new arrival to the PM birthday please? He/she hasn't got a name yet, but as he/she was 'born' today it makes them a 'Sagittauirus' ;-)
Thanks again everyone for all your 'pre-op' support and well wishes for my surgery today - I swear I could feel the good vibes across the miles!!!

Glad to hear things are going well. I also have a St Jude. Take it easy the first few weeks. After everything settles and the soreness goes away, you wont even realize it's in there!

Hi all,
Thanks for all your comments - I feel like a 'proper' member now :-)
Monday night was rough (they don't give you painkillers on discharge here in the UK - well I didn't get any!) and the normal strength paracetemol I had didn't do much. Once the morphine, local anaesthetic and post-op euphoria had worn off it was like BANG! As Ian said, it felt just being kicked by a mule.
Got some strong pain meds yesterday (co-codamol and ibruprofen) and bingo - felt great again. Slept like a baby, well, a baby propped up on 7 pillows!
As you advise, I'm taking it easy, very easy indeed. My Boyfriends got a few weeks off work with me so I'm being waited on hand and foot - fantastic!!!!!

PS - Tessy, I've sent you a private message.

I finished 29th in London in 2 hours 20 minutes 30 seconds which is my fastest with or without a device so clearly it didnt slow me down ! I had no problems apart from some slight chaffing on my scar - more Vaseline next time.
Well done Shelly

Glad everything went well Shelly, I also have a St Jude, mine is the 5366 model. Take it easy now, and keep your arm down, I forgot a few times, Day 3 or 4 was the worst for me as I think the bruising starts to work its way out and I felt like I had been kicked by a mule. I was back at work a week later but managed to take it easy and not do too much physical stuff. Sleeping is a bit difficult on your left side for a few months and I couldn't resist poking and prodding for a few months either.
Take care, Ian.
