I don't think there are any hard and fast answers to your question. For starters, what do you have? Is it a pacemaker or a defibrillator?

If it is a pacemaker your question should not be necessary as you should never feel a PM when it goes on line to assist maintaining your heart rate at some specified level. If you can feel it, see your doctor as adjustments are needed,

If you have a defibrillator, it should fire only when your heart goes into ventricular fibrillation. Since I understand a D-Fib unit firing can be anything from an attention getter to downright painful, I hope yours seldom fires.

If you can give us a little more information on what you have and the reason for your question, I'm sure someone here can give you more and better answers than these.

I received by bi-ven unit in May of 05. It fired twice in July of 05 while I was trimming a hedge. They made a change to the program, then it fired once in Sept 0f 05, they again made a change and it has not fired since Sept of 05. I take Tikosyn, coreg accupril ,and coumnadin, so far the medications are controling it.

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.
