I am glad you are feeling this much better so soon. Just after i got mine i mentioned how much color there was in the world. It was like going from a black and white movie to color. Things had been grey for a long time. Ela's advice was good though. Watch overdoing it is easy to fall into that trap. Bowlrbob

Differing degrees

The first week was the worst because just getting in and out of Bed was a chore. I'm five+ weeks, six weeks on Wednesday. I am nowwhere near as bad as the first week, But did expect it to not be sore by now.

I still find that getting out of bed means some sort of readjustment of the PM. After 10 mins or so it settles down. But the scare area itself, and the bit of the PM closest to the surface area is still sore. I think the rubbing of the clothes duirng the day affects it - but unfortunately for me when I ahve tried to protect it with dressings - I have an allergic reation. In fact although the scare areas is sore it is looking good - inlike the mark left from the reaction to the plaster dressing.

So I guess all this means a few weeks yet. Although we all heal at different rates I guess.

Good to hear you're doing so well Rach. As for feeling sore, it's still early days yet and though some people feel fit enough to resume most of their pre-PM work/activities a few weeks after implant, we're all different.

Personally, I'm in the sloooooow recovery camp, so I understand your frustration - mentally raring to go, but physically 'ouch'! it's been 8 weeks now and though the site doesn't hurt most of the time, a little light lifting or using the left arm often and it starts aching and stinging a little.

BUT the discomfort is NOTHING compared to how it felt the first 2-3 weeks so it really does get much better.

Try to rest up, only do what you absolutely have to do, but most of all..hang on in there girl :-)

ice packs help

by bini - 2008-01-24 08:01:01

As ela-girl mentioned ice packs seem to help. Also like she mentioned listen to your body and don't over do it.
Another thing to mention is to move the arm by the PM, becuase I didn't move it to much and I got frozen shoulder....not fun, just make sure you don't raise it above your head. Also when I was able to take hot bathes again that also felt really good, then I would ice it after.

Rach-

Personally, I think icing the site is REALLY helpful--more helpful than Motrin or Tylenol etc. Also taking an easy doesn't hurt either. Know your limits because when you surpass them, it takes awhile to bounce back again--especially when you are healing. Other than that, time heals all wounds, right?!

See ya around!
