Checkup Report

Just had my first checkup since getting the new Medtronic Adapta L ADDRL 1. All went well. When the new pacer was programmed back in Jan the upper limit was set down to 130 by the computer based on my age. I talked it over with the Medtronic rep and saw no reason for not setting it back up to 150 like the old one. Even the cardiologist concurred so everything went smooth.

I continue to be impressed with Medtronic. The rep is willing to go over all my picky questions in detail in a friendly way. The new interrogation and programming software has improved the printout to make it even easier to track trends.

Glad to hear...

My 8 week (actually it will 9 weeks) followup is on the 29th. I may print your post and show it to the EP when I ask him to up me to 150. I am set at 130 and as of this week finding it very limiting to my exercise level. I have come right up to that 130 mark several times in the past few days and had to back off.

BTW,I have the same pm as you.

Glad to hear your check-up went well! Keep on ticking!!

Good idea

The approach I use is that even if I tried to hold my HR below the 130 level, there is an overshoot when I stop exercising. If ride the exercise bike up to 128 and stop my HR continues on to maybe 135. This hits the limit and my heart starts acting like an engine with bad spark plugs.

I see it as risky to do this at a time when my heart needs good blood flow.

There is also a section on the Initial Interrogation Report that shows high atrial rate episodes. If their are long runs of afib or atrial flutter then you may need to use the limit from allowing them to be passed on the ventricles.

Be sure to get a copy of this report and also the Final Report.

good luck

You are catching on to me

Sounds like some of you are catching on to me. Yep, I often leave the docs office with what I want and with their look that I mus be an idiot.

One other thing I try to make very clear to them is that I take responsibility for my decision and won't blame them later. This is a legitimate fear they have.

The thing that is discouraging sometimes is that they never come out and admit that my approach gave a good outcome. Openly admitting when I am wrong is the way I learn.
