Hi Anyone

Just read Carol's posting about her rep for the PM. Does anyone know if there is a Guidant Rep and whether they have the same knowledge.

Would just like to get rid of the odd heart beat and maybe a rep from Guidant would know.

I have called Guidant (now Boston Scientific) before and asked questions about my particular issues. Plus a Guidant rep is who checks out my PM when I go to the dr. Google Guidant , they have a 800 #

Guidant rep to fix odd heart beat.

I unfortunately also have a Guidant. With my experience, I am not sure that I trust anything they say or do. The rep that my cardiologist uses quit working for Guidant after the story broke about Guidant hiding information about it's defective pacemakers, so I do trust him. Feelings about Guidant aside, I would be very leery about relying on any company rep to try to fix an "odd heart beat" I would talk to my cardiologist or EP.

Leave the cardiologist out of it. An EP is a good alternative. It isn't that I have anything against cardiologists or that some of them may be competent in the electrical activity of the heart. It's just that in general their strong area is surgery. My cardio did an excellent job of implanting my pacer, but he doesn't have a clue when it comes to dealing with arrhythmias. I know he relies on the input of the pharmaceutical detail men and the pacemaker reps for his information. So why not let the rep do it in the first place.
I understand the loss of confidence in Guidant. This was a corporate decision to with hold information and doesn't reflect on the reps.

It was a long road and I, just wanted to add that I was kind of wondering myself how a product rep can change settings. She was working with the RN in the Pacer Lab, so maybe that's how. Of course on the other hand, she was the one who met with me the day after implant and checked everything out before I went home. In any event I was blessed to have had the opportunity for her to assess me and offer a resolution. Early on, at one point when I was feeling rotten and rater hopeless, I asked the nurse what would the "last resort" be. She answered "we'll call in the rep". Wish we could have done that as a "First resort!!!" Well, live and learn.
