Hi
Have been cycling as you all must know, I bore people about it, but today I thought I would go for a longer run. I went about 2 miles, felt OK when running, legs a little like jelly but I haven't run since last September/October.
Since coming back home my heart went down slowly and reached the lower level but I feel slightly weird, anxious, and heart slight faster than normal but not dramatic. Do you think this is nerves or just getting use to the running again.

Jules, there is a whole group of athletes that run with PM's. In fact there is a website devoted to them (cardiacatletes.org) and there are sixteen of us competing in the NJ Marathon & Relay next month on this side of the Atlantic. If you need more info send me a private message.

Effects after exercise

I've felt similar at times after a day of intense hiking. It may be due to our heart action being a bit different than before the pacemaker. We do only have pacing in one ventricle and while I'm not worried about heart failure from it, there could be a different feeling. Might be we are using different heart muscles than before.

A properly implanted and adjusted pacemaker will not even be noticeable after you get over the surgery.

Jules,
I think it may be both things and maybe a third. You could be anxious and it could be a little getting used to it after such a long lay off from running. The third thing could be that maybe you need your rate response adjusted and tweaked just a little for a smoother transition from running to not running. It took several sessions before they got mine right, and still today my heart rate goes down more slowly to normal than it did before I had a pacer. Rick
