Hey everybody,
I just got off the phone with a medtronic rep/tech that I know. He does our teaching at our hospital were I work. I explained to him about myself and all of you and our frustrations about not getting answers to questions that we need. Too many people are suffering and something needs to be done. We discussed getting together and developing a educational program for people like you and me. Something that we can sink our teeth into regarding our devices, complications, concerns and questions. We discussed how to address the doctors so that they will listen to us and how to deal with docs who won't. I told him about this website and he is VERY interested in all the questions and concerns people have. I have know this guy form many years and he truly cares about the patients , he is a great pt advocate and is very willing to work and help us if he can. I am excited!!. He asked me to have people post questions , signs and symptoms before we meet so that when I bring up the website he can see specific things he may be able to address. I am not suppose to see my doctor until march 17 too long of a wait for me so I made an appointment first thing this morning for wed. Brian ( the rep) knows my doctor well and knows he is a stickler for perfection, I told him even as a nurse I was not sure how pose my concerns to the doctor and he put me to ease by saying , write down everything thing you are feeling, big or small, vital signs, chest pain the different paps, etc. If the doctor does as ekg in the office make sure he knows that I am or am not syptomatic . As you well know they tell us everything looks good and as soon as you get out the door there it is again. I also plan on asking my doctor to help be a part of this team, to reach out and help us . We will see what happens. I hope we will have a big response so that the rep and the doctor will see, We really do need help!
Please feel free to e -mail me at any time. I am going to start to write some of the questions and problems down for documentation purposes. I need your input to make this work.
The rep and I are going to meet within either the next few days or within the next two weeks. I will keep you posted.
Thanks

That is wonderful news. I have no questions at the moment but I'm sure I will have later.
I have a Total Knee Replacment and am a member of a group of folks in the same postion having had either knee or hip replacments. We are so fortunate to now have an Orthopedic Surgeron in our group who answers our general questions but will tell us quickly if it is something we need to talk our Ortho. Dr. about. instead.
It works great.
I pray that all works out for us here as well.

Question

Great! My experience with Medtronic reps has been very positive. Here is a question for him:
What is the relationship between stomach bloating and excessive PVC's? I notice when I eat something that causes bloating and sometimes can palpate a sore spot about half way between my sternum and naval I will have an episode of PVC's.
For his info I have a Medtronics Kappa 701 set to DDD mode with lower limit=55 and upper=150. A Medtronic rep does my checkups. I have complete AV block.
I am an electronic engineer and manufacture biofeedback equipment. I have modified one of my units to work as a single channel ECG and can observe both heart and pacemaker operation so I know what I am having is PVC's.
With the biofeedback I can also identify my emotional reactions and am not prone to panic/anxiety over the sensations.

I have questions right away. I have my lead on my left side (I am left-handed)and have started having sore feeling right above the clavicle near the neck. Could it be just a sore muscle or would it be the lead? Also, my lead is right under the skin lower in the chest (no fat there) and is there anyway to keep my swimsuit from really causing soreness there? I have a heart block and av node ablation and I know I am in Afib all the time, but with a pacemaker I often feel a "flutter" feeling in that area. Does that occur with a pacemaker? Keep up the wonderful work and we will all be sending you many questions I am certain. By the way, what is your e-mail address? Thanks so much for all your work.... aldeer
