Hi
Thought I would ask a question of my fellow bionics.Since I am
going to be at home for about the next month I thought I would start a diet. Before my surgery I weighed 240 and while I am
fairly active I have found that food is my favorite dish.I asked my doctor about one on my last visit, and while I like him very much,he sometimes answers you without answering you.I might also add that I am a type 2 diabetic (meds only) and I have 1 kidney (operation 2001).This may be a question for a
doctor or dietician but I thought it would be worthwhile to see
if one of my club members might know of one or where one might look for such an item.

Diets

I have tried most of the diets out there again & again as I love to eat. I need to start another one but the best thing that I ever did for myself in the past was to go to a diabetic dietician & get limits (carb,s cal's, etc) & then write everything down I put in my mouth & stop when I met those limits even if it was 10 AM. hehe Seems like this would be esp. important for you with one kidney.
Let me know how you are doing. Maybe we can support each other on the message part of this website.
Good luck,
Janet

I would check with Dr. first but I am a member of Weight Watchers and have good luck with them. I don't have the medical issues you do so I think you should discuss with a Dr. to see if there would be any problmes. I use the flex plan (points) and find that tracking my food intake has helped me quite a bit, plus adding exercise. I've been losing about a pound a week and feel much better now. I've got a ways to go but feel like I am doing it in a healthy way.
Good Luck!

Good advice Janet.
In addition to finding a good dietician, you might want to look up www.diabetes.org/nutrition. Click on Making Healthy Food Choices. This might help you to understand the complicated diabetic diet while losing weight.
If you have only one kidney and are overweight and diabetic, you're making a great choice to get your food intake in check while you have time. I know it's tough when you love food (that includes the majority of us) but you can do it. It's great that you will have the support of Janet who truly knows what you are dealing with.
I really wish you good luck with this.
Take care.
