Hi, I'm new here and just had my pacemaker installed on Feb. 26, of this year. I've been home from the hospital for two weeks now. And I have had a constant upset stomach. Sometimes so bad I throw up or just can't function. Does anyoen have or had the same problem? If so what do you do about it? How long does it last?
My Mother has had her pacemaker since Oct. 2007 and she has the same problem.
Please help!

antibiotic induced?

I had an upset stomach that was more than likely antibiotic induced. Once I finished the post operation cycle, it cleared up.

I have had my PM for 3 months. I take Carafate for my upset stomach. I have also had a decrease in appetite. I am usually tired and sleepy quite often. I have been contemplating asking my doctor to reccomend permanent disability for me.
Take care.
Ben.

Hello,
I had my pacemaker implanted the day before you. I never have a upset stomach (or very rarely!) but for the first 3 weeks my stomach was often upset. I threw up in the hospital, but once I got home that quit at least. I have found if I eat a few soda crackers or pop a tums now and then it helps. I have tried to eat mostly bland food or things I don't think will cause an upset. My initial reaction was from my antibiotic. The other ~ who knows, likely anxiety or from going on/off my regular meds. It just took my body awhile to get back in gear. They did give me quite a bit of medications during the implant. I think it took a couple weeks to get it all out of my system.
My stomach problems are declining and it doesn't bother me nearly as much as a week ago. I think it will eventually go away.
Have they given you any new meds since your pacemaker? If your stomach problems don't improve I would certainly call your doctor and see what they will do! Be sure you are being able to have enough fluids and they are staying down. Getting dehydrated can really make you feel awful.
Good luck.

What medications did they put you on? That and not the PM may be the reason.
