Wondering myself...
by Swedeheart - 2008-04-16 03:04:24
Hello,
I have wondered about the bra pad as well. I am not thin, skinny, or svelt.... but have my own "padding"... however my bra strap irritates my PM to no end. However, I need the support so cannot go without. I have tried on a zillion different bras, but so many of them are padded nowdays... that is the last thing I need! I have tried several suggestions that others have used, making my own soft fabric little pad for the bra strap, even trying several thicknesses of gauze, etc. Nothing I have found really has worked super well. My PM area still gets irritated. I was going to order one of the bra strap pads but with tax, shipping it is close to $30... kinda spendy, but it if works.... I am hoping someone who has purchased one will chime in and tell!
As for the seat belt... I do a no-no and slip it under my arm. I still have the lap belt part fastened. I have one of those sheepskin wrap around thingys for seat belts and it helps pad it, but since everything seems to irritate me I haven't used it much.
I guess I am a grumpy little old lady! Ha!

Hi,
I bought the soft touch seat belt pad (advertised on the left side of this site) last week. I am having a difficult time using it and and making it stay in place. I am not very comfortable with it. I am giving it one more week and if I don't feel better I will return it.I was using a small fluffy towel before that and I was pretty comfortable.
If you come up with something better please let met know.
Good Luck

Seat Belt Pad

I have the seat belt pad, and like Kathy I have had a hard time adjusting it. I finally started putting it below my pm (which is just below my collar bone) so it holds the belt off the pm a bit. I too am not well padded in the area where my pm is (wish they'd implanted in my butt cheek, plenty of fat there! LOL)
I haven't had too much trouble with bras. I just try them on until I find one that is comfy and straps stay up.
Swedeheart...I used to slip my belt under my arm too until I hit a deer one night. That scared me into wearing it the correct way again!

bra pad & seat belt pad

I have both and use neither as they are uncomfortable. The seat belt pad does not stay put so a wash cloth or small hand towel put right under the strap works much better. I do not have fat in that area and my pm sticks out just a little and the lead wire is right under the skin, so I have had a hard time finding a comfortable bra. I found the maidenform one seems to work best, but I do have to continually pull the strap up. There has to be better designs for both. My Speedo swim suits are uncomfortable with the stretch straps, so I have found a halter one and also one that has no elastic in the strap area and a lot of give. It works for me. lots of good luck

Bra pads

I have been trying to find the perfect bra and the road has been long!
Finally I found a bra that is comfy for me but one that also looks nice as well. The new Victoria Secret biofit bra works for me bc the strap does not go over my site at all. The women who helped me said that Balconet style bras would be the best bc the straps are wide set so they shouldn't go over my PM site.
When I first got my PM...the struggle to find a comfy bra seemed doomed. I was even thinking of creating bras for people with PM's. But now I am happy knowing that there are good bra's out there....you just have to search and try a ton of them on.
Good luck!

Seat belt pad

I use the seat belt pad when I'm driving as the belt goes right over my PM which is between my shoulder and neck just past my bra strap toward the neck side. I too am skinny there and It seems to help.
I asked my Cardiologist what should I do if I'm ever in a auto accident and the seat belt restrains me and he said, "Get to ER ASAP!"

Seat Belt Strap

I'm a guy so have no Bra problems. However the seatbelt was a concern. I have a lambs wool seat belt cover that does give me some cushioning however I am concerned about having an accident and being restrained by the belt. I have taken to wearing it under my arm, and feel that the combination of this restraint and the airbag will protect me. I have also moved my drivers seat as far back as I can to maximize the effect of the airbag, while minumizing its potential to hurt me. I hope this is of some help. Jack R

I have had the best luck using a combo of wearing my puffy down vest and covering the seat belt with the velcra closinf sheepskin cover sold at auto supply stores. But with the weather getting warmer I am going to have to deleat the down vest. Oh well!

Hi there. I'm skinny too. You can see the whole outline of my PM and it sticks out under my armpit too cause there just isn't the room for it. I spent the first few months in pain with it eithermaking my armpit sore or rubbing on my chest bones nearest my sternum. This is much better now as my body has padded it quite nicely. As for bras and seatbelts.......... I have found that I can no longer wear some bras but others are fine. I had to have a mammoth tryingon session in the lingerie store and came away with 3 new bras that were comfy and stayed put. I must have tried on about 30. As for the seatbelt issue...I do not have an official pad but brought myself a "rat" he is soft and really squashy and I just put him under the belt at PM point. I do not need him there now so he is with my other teddies!!! Retired after only 6 months work.
I hope you find a solution to the pain being a girl makes and I can only say try lots of bra...I couldn't believe how different they all were (even ones from same make)
Take care
Lotti
