I understand the way u are feeling , because i am going thru the same thing right now it was implanted this sept after open heart surgery they damaged my electrical conduction in the heart so they needed to put a pacemaker in and i feel worse than before my surgery . you just have to keep after the doctors. make sure you have a electrophysiologist to do that they specialize in pacemakers only and you might have better luck . hopefully i just started with one myself so we'll see. hope this little bit of info helps . e mail me if u would like if i can help one person to feel better that would make me happy after the way i have felt and no doctors would listen to me .

dizzyness & unsteady

by Pookie - 2008-04-16 03:04:09

perhaps you might want to get your blood pressure checked, if too low, one can become dizzy. anxiety, they say, can make you dizzy as well.

one more thing: look at the medications, if you are on any, some side effects can make you dizzy and headache is one of the most common side effect to any medication.

keep digging for the answers, don't give up.

You are still recovering from MAJOR Surgerys.

You WILL get tired and anxious, especially with a young family to look after.

If you reread the replies to your earlier posts, you will understand what you are feeling is not pleasant, but it is normal.

The PM. checks (usually done around six weeks after fitting), will give you a chance to have adjustments made.
These may be slight changes, but they can make a difference to your ability to relax and rest.

Rest as often as you can (don't laugh, it can be done :) ).

Keep posting, it does get better.

Complicated...

by Swedeheart - 2008-04-16 04:04:10

Hello,

Your sequence of events sounds partially similar to mine. Felt fine ~ suddenly very dizzy, etc. after a bunch of tests it was decided I needed a pacemaker. During that 6 weeks I had terrible anxiety attacks... I am on wee 7 since implant and finally many of those symptoms are going away... it takes a looooooong time for many of us to actually feel better. With that said it sounds like you have other potential health issues as well. Believe me you aren't crazy and being anxious about your heart isn't abnormal or anything!

This is one thing I do that helps me monitor my own health. I keep a computer log of my blood pressure/pulse about 6 times a day. Along with that I keep notes on when I take my meds and what meds and how I am feeling along with my activity level. It is pretty much a nuisance to do, but it gives me concrete information to print out and take to my doctor so he can determine if my dizzy times are because of meds, or a PM adjustment or something else.

Be as proactive as you possibly have energy for... and keep at the doctors! If you aren't getting anywhere with the one you have get a second or third opinion. Many folks have had to really search to find someone who can help them. I also recommend reading and learning as much as you can about your conditions. It will help you understand what is happening and eventually lessen any anxiety. It is difficult to assess, anxiety brings on many of the same symptoms as a heart attack ~ I know I have been to ER only to be tested and sent home. But, I don't want to be at home thinking I am having an anxiety thing and actually have heart trouble! So I go to ER or my doc.

You aren't alone. It took me at least 4+ weeks after my PM to begin to feel better. But, follow the advice above, call your doctor, keep looking for answers, don't give up! Find another doctor if you need to.

Good luck. Ask all the questions you want here. Folks are great!

Driving home

Please, if you feel the way you described don't head for your car.The last thing you want to be doing is driving at a time like that. Call someone to come and get you.
Last Nov when I found myself skipping as many as 4 beats in a row I called 911 and had them take me to emergency for this very reason, even though I only live 2 miles from the hospital and had no signs of passing out. I didn't want to risk hurting someone.

As for my pacemaker (almost 7 years old) I like to think of it in the terms of the old Timex commercial - takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
