Hi All
I am still quite new to this. I have found some of the topics really interesting, I wish I had found this site sooner.
The only support my family has received is from the patient support group STARS (Syncope Trust And Reflex Anoxic Seizure) they are a charity who support suffers with blackouts, has any body see their site www.stars.org.uk they have been fantastic.
Has anybody had genetic testing, my family are just going through this now as my daughter who is 16 has suffered for many years and last year had a pacemaker fit and my dad who is 68 he as had blackouts for most of his life but got a pacemaker about 3 years ago.
I would love to hear from any one else.
Julie

I have MVP and have been very symptomatic for years, til recently.
I know that MVP is inheritable, usually passed through the females.
They seem to think that this form of MVP is embryogenic, ie some sort of "defect" that's passed on before birth.
Of course, any healthy heart can suddenly prolapse and most of the people don't even know they have it.
It's usually found during a regular medical or after someone faints.
Hope this helps.
Can someone please let me know how the "messaging" system works? Thankyou.

Genetics and PM's
by maryanne - 2008-05-27 12:05:53
As a matter of fact my family is in the process right now of genetic testing...you see in my immediate family there was my father and 4 of my siblings and myself who have PM's. All of us have children who have cardiac issues.... 3 of my siblings have children who have pacemakers and my middle daughter is being tested but already at the age of 19 she has syncopal episodes and her ECG show the arrythmias, so chances are she will need a PM.
What we have found out so far is that there is that we have a degenerative gene that although it is found throughout the body it has an affinity to the heart....my eldest sister who has a PM all three of her children have cardiac issues but only her eldest daughter has the PM.
It's very interesting....I'll keep you posted as to what we find out....great question....

But I think it will make me feel a lot better. My stamina to walk is already better, even right after surgery. They had me walk all around the floor before they would release me. I did so without being exhausted and winded the way I had been.

Hi Julie,
I too suffer from blackouts, I have a condition called POTS that is causing my Blood Pressure to drop. I faint around 4 times a week on average.
I am on tons of BP meds and now have a PM trying to regulate my BP and heart rate.
I too found Stars to be a great site, I am a volunteer for them.
No one else in my family suffers from this, they think my POTS was caused by lyme disease which I had 6 years ago.
anyway, if you ever need to talk please feel free to email me anytime.
