Hello Bob,
I use the Medtronic Carelink about every 2 months. Pretty simple process just hold the wand over your pacemaker and push a button the unit does the rest.
Its like getting the interrogation done at the EP office just a lot quicker.
Have a great day!
Once a Month

Howdy,
I have a Medtronic unit on my nightstand that reads my ICD once a month while I sleep. Once it was setup nothing else is required for me to do,
Just check with your Doctor that he is getting the readings when you go for a checkup
Regards,
Kevin.

My Medtronic Carelink sits by my bed and automatically pulls the information at night while I'm asleep. The only time I had to use the wand was the 1st time to set it up. My friends have teased me that it won't be long before I'm receiving subliminal messages from some foreign government who take control of my brain via my heart. So far so good tho!
How often

They usually start out fairly often like once a month and then decide based on how things are going. As the pacer nears the end of its battery life the checkups are more often also.
Of course there is also how often your insurance will pay for a checkup. Good insurance generally "insures" that your condition is more serious and requires more frequent checks.
Oh, ICD's are usually checked more often and now are moving toward the beside monitoring do the the serious nature of the situation. As I understand it they will actually make an emergency call in case of arrest.

I have been having home checks since I got my pacer in Feb. of 2005. It was a bit nerve wracking at first... then in became easier. I know the phone check lady by name (Lisa) and she is a jewel of a person. She was so easy and gentle with me, giving me instructions during the checks. Now it is a piece of cake. I set up the computer box. Get the bracelets on my arms call her up turn in the power and follow the instructions. Takes less than 10 min. I have to do it just before I leave for work. It is painless, easy and quick. Sure beats running into the Dr. office.
At first I did the checks every 6 weeks or so. Then every 3 mos. Now that i am in my last year of battery life I am back to every month.
I hope this was what you were asking about. My Dr. provided me with the ekg box and the phone number to call.
I hope I have been able to help you some... Questions? please send me a post in messages. Just reply to my name. Easy peaszy!

p.s. never have your laptop next to the EKG box... it will interfere with the operation... and not in a good way! he he :D
