I recently found why I was getting a "shock" every night at 8:40 pm. It's because my pacemaker is programmed to run a test every 24 hours if I am resting.I am usually watching TV then . I may start taking a walk instead . No one told about this test . I found out this morning, I was worried sick for the past couple days when I realized I was a getting a KICK type thing at the same time each night . My previous pacemaker did not do this. I could find nothing on the internet and thought I would post this here in case you migjt have the same feeling . Apparently If active it will delay to later time to test. If you want to change the test time you ask the tech to program it for whenever you think is best . They say if you are sleeping, it won't wake you up , but I have my doubts .

Test 'shock'

Diacat,
talk to your PM. technician. Once he is happy with the installation, he may switch off the 24 hr. test routine.
It is not a necessary part of the PM. function.
Talking to the Tech. is always a good idea.

24 hour capture management

by diacat - 2007-07-12 07:07:49

My pm is a medtronic SEDR0

I think I ask about turning this self adjusting feature off, at at least temporarily,
unless told it's not a good idea. I know it's a minor annoyance in the big picture but I plain don't like it . If they convince me otherwise , I'll ask for early morning (less likely to be mid/talking to someone who doesn't know why I jerk/jump and I don't want to explain it to stranger . My close friends think its kind of weird as it is already . If I had known this was called..... Capture Management - I would have found it......

You know you're wired when...

I have had my pacer since 2005. At first it ruled my life. It took some time to calm down and make the mental adjustment. I had trouble sleeping and I worried a lot about pulling wires. Now I just live my life as I wish.
