I am 31 years old now and have been actively looking for a surgeon who will perform a breast reduction and or lift. As soon as I say I have a pacemaker I am denied. The reason stated is that the anesthesiologist is unwilling to do general anesthesia; and breast surgeries are done under general anesthesia. Help! Does anyone know a surgeon that is willing to do this procedure? Ps I already tried abroad and I ran into the same answer.

It's not the general they are afraid of...

Not knowing specifically about breast surgery, but I can give another example.
I wanted to get septumplasty to correct my breathing, since I can no longer use decongestants, but the ENT doc would not do the procedure in his office. He insisted on taking me to the hospital, where there was sufficient support in case my arrythmia presented itself while I was on the table.
this is probably going to be the same with any surgeon. Since plastic surgery is usually not covered by insurance (septumplasty is, but I didn't want to stop working out for 2 weeks), it would cost a lot more to have it done at a hospital instead of the doctors office surgical suite.
General Anesthesia after PM

I have had two Total Knee Replacements (different knees, 6 wks apart) under general, Thank God. Of 'course, my cardio had to OK it all befoer Ortho did the procedures. All went well. So I wonder if it is more of the area of the body that you are asking for the procedure to be done on rather than the PM. Just a thought.
Good luck, Janet
anesthesia is fine

I've had general anesthesia several times with a pm. They just have to do it in the hospital rather than an office.
Someone posted a few weeks ago about getting an augmentation and ran into problems with the doctor not wanting to do it because he was concerned about infection having implants in the same muscle as the pm. That wouldn't be a problem with a reduction, unless you had leads near where they'd be doing it?
Breast reduction

I am in Nevada and I have looked all over to find a dr that will give me the reduction that I was supposed to have before the pm implant last year, but to no avail. They all say that it is too risky, due to the damage that may come from moving leads and my AFib. Hope you can find someone.
Pacemaker turned off

In 2007 I had my pacemaker turned off after finding out that I never really needed a pacemaker to begin with however it was the remedy back in 1984. I had my daughter in 2008 via C-section with local anesthesia -epidural. Now I'm ready for a breast reduction and lift. I too will have to have my procedure done in the hospital with the cardiologists on standby.

General Anesthesia

Wow!
I sure hope we can have general anesthetic after a pacemaker!!
I don't know about breast reductions/lifts but have a guy waiting to remove my Gall Bladder and CBD, it better be under a General!!
I found it hard enough to have two heart ops while "sedated"..... ie fully awake.
There are medical reasons for a breast reduction, my friend had to have one, her headaches and back pain were unrelenting.....would that help you?
Good luck in finding someone reputable to do your op.
Best luck when you have it done too.
