Battery

Does anyone know how big the battery in a one lone pacemaker is and how long it takes to inplant? I was told it was no big deal that I would go home the same day. It is a big deal to me just to be cut on again. Thanks for your help. Bonnie K. Murphy

easier!

Replacements are much easier than the first time. As the others said, they leave the leads alone and replace the whole generator. Also, they go in the same place which means it's scar tissue. Most of the soreness the first time was from the pocket healing. My rep likened it to opening a zipped pocket, the old pm comes right out, the new one goes in the same spot.

I've had 4 now. I've been home for lunch each time except the last, but that time I had a lead replaced and some scar tissue removal so it was a little more complicated.

Thank you

Thank you for the information on the pacemaker. But what do you mean by a day surgey? How many hours are you talking about?

a bit of a misnomer

Battery replacement means the whole PM is replaced, not just a battery. The procedure is much easier because the same leads are kept in place unless they are not working properly. So a replacement is quicker and less invasive. As with any surgery the main risk is infection which is a relatively low but still significant risk. And the procedure is a day surgery for most of us.

It means in and out on the same day. A lot of us go in at 7 AM & are out in time for lunch. It can be that quick.

The actual time on the table could be a low as the 45 min you've heard quoted.
