Hello All.... I had my pacemaker put in last Monday (Finally!). I had a post on here about local or general anistectics awhile ago with lots of responses and I decided to go local and was knocked out so good I don't remember a thing. It has only been 9 days since surgery and I am feeling great (VERY painful on day 3 - 5 though). I can't readily get ahold of my surgeon though and I just wanted to see what others were told about their incision care after surgery. I really want to start putting polysporin or vitamin e cream on it or something. I want as little visible later on as possible. How long after do I have to wait before I can start putting cream on it. It seems to be pretty closed up already... and they stitched it fromt he inside so it is already healing really well. Thanks a bunch!

Loopy's cream
by Tracey_E - 2009-01-21 04:01:31
is the medical grade vitamin e I mentioned. I gave her what was left of my jar when she was here on vacation. She'd have to tell you the brand since she has the jar now, all I remember is red label on a white plastic tub. It's not prescription but I got it from a doctor.
Lou, I still think my tattoo idea was rather clever! Hee hee
Use oils!

I started using Bio Oil one week after stitches were removed and until recently. However, when I visited Tracey she gave me some cream to try so now using it! My scars are 6 months old and healing well!
I am glad she replied to you as I was going to suggest you send a message to her about scarring!
Good luck and let us know how you get on!
Love & Hugs, Loopy Lou xxxxxxxxxx

Embrace it! I show everyone mine! lol.
In the scheme of things, it doesnt really matter does it!
Bio oil seems to make me itch, E45 seems good. I think the most important thing for us all is to take good care of our skin in the areas where we might eventually need to be reopened.
Use a good sunblock and fake tan that bit, the sun will just damage our skin and make it less supple. Good skin heals best.
Am off to Tenerife tomorrow armed with my factor 50 and a bit of fake tan!

If you can't find it, I'd be happy to send you some. My chiropractor has it, I see him every other week or so. (still can't think of the name!)
Knocked out?

What happened. If you chose to go local did they go against your wishes and give you the works anyway?
I may have mentioned it before, but I had mine done under a local and was wide awake during the whole thing. It may have been because the anesthesiologist said something about giving my something to relieve my anxiety and I told him that I was requesting NOTHING other than the local unless I asked for it.
Sounds like it was OK with you which is all that counts.
By the way by this point in time you should be able to treat the incision like any other cut.

Hi :) I've always used Mederma for scars...seems to help. My doctor said to wait 2 weeks before applying the Mederma. You can get it at Wal-Mart, I think it costs about $12 if I'm remembering correctly. I used it on both my pacemaker scar and my scar from OHS. Both healed nice and flat. :)
silicon gel
by Hot Heart - 2009-02-14 11:02:13
Hi there! Happoy valentines day.
My pm scar has heeled beautifully just with bio oil, but the scarring from the lipo and thigh lift is a bit bad in places. Ive got a keloid (didnt know what that was until the other day) its a thickening of the scar.
My surgeon has suggested silicon based gels, dont know what they would be called in the states but if you google you will probably find them.
I think they are a bit pricey, but ive been told they are really good.
Good luck! x

I have a well tuned pacer. I hardly know I have it. I am 76 year old, hike and camp alone in the desert. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. The only problem is my wife wants to have a knob installed so she can turn the pacer down.
vitamin e

I used medical grade vitamin E ointment. I can't remember what the doctor said but I started using it when it had healed enough to get itchy.
Staying hydrated makes a big difference in how your skin heals and resists scars, how resilient it is. Drink lots of water!
I've had the opposite experience of pawgles. My pm scar which has been opened three times now for replacements- last time two years ago- is nearly invisible. It's usually purplish for the first year then turns white and blends right in (I'm pale!)
