Hi everyone! I just had a pm inserted 1 month ago. I've had 2 setting adjustments and am still easily tired. Getting better since last adjustment 2 days ago. But it doesn't take much to wear me out and get to breathing hard. BP is well withing normal range, and pulse runs usually in the 90's. Is it normal to still be tired most of the time?

I received my PM 8wks ago, totally unexpected also. My heart rate was dropping as low as 20, with no symptoms. I was adjusted at least every 2 wks. i was very tired, just walking around the house kicked my butt. It took some time but I feel pretty good now. About 1wk ago I started going to the gym and walking on the treadmill, this is helping alot. i know you feel awful and its very stressful and emotionally draining but try to hang in there. TraceyE knows what she's talking about, as a matter of fact she was instramental in helping me. I'm 54 and was very active, so like you couldn't wrap my head around such a major change in my body. Bottom line it just takes time. This site is excellent for information and venting.

Sometimes the pacing delay from the atrium to the ventricle can make you feel tired climbing stairs, running, etc....your PM is working, but you may not feel great. You might want to look into shortening this if that is your issue.

What condition do you have that requires the pm and how was your health before the surgery? One month is not really enough time for your body to completely heal, try to be patient for 6-8 weeks. Your heart is still getting used to beating normally and you may tire more easily for a while as it adjusts.
That said, if you are otherwise healthy and active, know that you are a lot more challenging to program than the elderly patient with a laundry list of additional problems. I was back 3 or 4 times when I got my first one before they got it tweaked just right. They usually like to make changes slowly, a bit at a time, to see how you do before making additional changes. Don't be shy about asking to be seen again if you still don't feel right.
If exercise continues to make you too tired, they may want to do a stress test to see what happens when you get your hr up, this helps them pinpoint what you need. If you go back again and it still isn't right, ask for a stress test if they don't suggest it.
