Does anyone use a heart rate monitor when exercising?
I've been thinking about getting one but was wondering if some were more accurate than others. I have just been using the RPE when exercising, but since I'm basically a lazy person. . .well, it might not be too accurate for me. Any suggestions or feedback?

I went through 5 or 6 brands (none had a reading) before I found the brookstone monitor that you wear like a ring. Some members have had better luck, it depends on what kind of pm you have and how much you use it. If you do a search (top right corner of your screen) you will find a number of discussions about it.
Does the ring look stylish

Wow that would be great to have a heart monitor that matches my other jewelry. Where did you get that from? Sounds expensive.
not expensive, not stylish

I got it from Brookstone, it's their brand. It's strictly for working out.

The Brookstone does it right

The Brookstone measures the blood pulses in the finger and so isn't affected by the change in ECG we have with a pacer. I just did a Google on it and guess I should get one myself.

Polar HR monitor

I use a chest strap Polar HR monitor. I called Boston Scientific and they say it's ok to use. I use it while cycling.
Polar

The Polar won't hurt the pm, but many (not all) pm's will mess with the Polar, either by sending a competing signal that cancels out the Polar's signal, or it catches the pm spikes as separate beats so the number it gives you is off. When I wear a Polar, it tells me my hr is 0. I'm pretty sure it's a bit higher than that ;o)
Thanks for the info

It may be the first time we've felt a normal heart rhythm in a long time, so of course it seems too fast and too strong.
