fast heart rate when waking quickly

It will be 5 weeks since I had my Medtronics dual chamber Pm. Today I went to do a pacer check. They changed my rate from 60/130 to 50/150 because I was occasionally getting lightheaded and shortness of breath. Now I notice when I get up and begin to walk quickly , my heart will immediately begin to beat very fast . After I stop the rate will begin to slow down after 30 - 45 seconds. Is this normal for the heart "race'' like that when I begin to walk quickly? Thanks for your help..

Do you know if you're using rate response? It may be set too sensitive.

The setting of the rate response can have major impact on how you feel when you get going. I for example want mine shortened because of my running.... actually I am going to be wear a holter and go for a run...the doctor wants to see what happens...then based on that information they will make more adjustments....

Oh the joys of it all....it's worth asking who ever you see for your PM about the rate response...it's an easy enough adjustment to make....

good luck with it....cheers...Mary Anne

May not need rate response

Depending on your problem, rate response may not be needed. If you have AV Block (heart block), but otherwise normal atrial rhythm turning off rate response lets your heart control it own HR.

Frequently, RR is turned on at implant until there is enough data to make a decision, but they never get around to makeing the change.

Another possibility is that you have just gotten out of shape and the increase is normal.
