Hi Everybody,
I don't believe this is true but I am hoping somebody can confirm. I heard from somebody that the new cordless phones with the dect 6.0 and wireless internet can affect pacemakers. Does anybody know if there is any truth to that? Also where I live there are 3 cell phone towers and one radio tower. Can this have any affect on pacemakers? My pacemaker is for a type 2 heart defect and only comes on if my heart rate drops below 50 bpm.
Thanks
Stacey

It's rare for any home electronics or towers to affect a pm. Worst case, it causes interference while you are close to it (less than 6") but the pm goes back to normal with no harm done as soon as you step away from it. It would be similar to what they do when they test it.

I'm into Amateur (Ham) Radio. I thought getting a pacemaker was the end of my radio fun. I checked with my pacemaker manufacturer and they gave me some guidelines as to being around radios and other transmitting devices. Hold your cordless phone on the side your pacemaker is not. Don't put an electronic device (like an itouch) in the shirt pocket near your pacemaker if the WiFi is on. Avoid welders and chainsaws! Ground any radio transmitters in your house.
The cell towers and radio tower in your area should not affect you. My pacemaker mfg. told me the newer the pacemaker the better at resisting these sort of things. My pacemaker is going on 2 years old. Hope this helps!!!
