Hedge Trimmers

Thanks Smitty for your comment on the above. It gives me more confidence in tackling the many conifer trees that need trimming in my garden.
Best wishes

25 yo runner, Not as fit as before PM!?

Hi, my running post PM operation doesn't seem to be going as well as I would like. I was expecting to be exactly the same if not better. I used to enjoy effortless runs for up to two hours a go. but now I feel slower and heavier. I have been easing myself in slowly and it maybe because ive not done enough since recovering from the operation.

I had a pacemaker because my heart rate dropped below 30, frequently after my runs. it was ok until I started to feel dizzy quite unwell for a f...

Hedge Trimmers

Can anyone tell me whether I should use the above after having a pacemaker fitted. It requires manouevring a fairly heavy bit of equipment above shoulder height for much of the time.

HR Monitor watches

I had been looking for a Heart Monitor watch that would work with my pacemaker. I have tried everyone I could find. All the apple store had around Christmas 2012, that worked with the I phone, No luck. I tried the new Garmin Fenix, and 610,no luck.
I tried the Polar FT1, it seemed to work fine. I tried several of the Polar (FT) models and they all worked well. I have kept the FT4.
It had a replaceable battery and I liked that.
Note I even tried some on the watches that you put you...

no endurance?

I am a 38 year old who lifts weights and does 30 min of cardio about 3 times a week. Last July I went into complete heart block and got a pacemaker. They think the block was caused by myocarditis from a viral infection 2 months earlier. Since my pm I have really struggled with my cardio endurance. I felt as though I was hitting a wall and had my settings changed and rate response turned on. I am better but a I am wondering if I will ever feel normal again? I am worried there is something no...

Competitive Cycling

Hi Folks,
I am new to the post, my name is Doc Savage, and glad to be here. As a bit of background, I am 62, an endurance athlete and race bicycles. On 4 Aug 2012, I collapsed on a training ride in cardiac arrest. Just as collapsed a firetruck drove by, saw me and turned around and was on me in a minute and a half. After CPR and two shocks later, they got my heart started. Test revealed my LAD was nearly 100% blocked. Had two stents inserted and left hospital 2 days later. I had an EP...

Starting back on the bike

Had my PM fitted 22 Jan for Bradycardia ( long history of low pulse, competetion cyclist for 40 years, now 61 yrs young) all good so far. Plan to start on my stationary trainer at day 7 post operation and not get on road bike till post my cardio followup visit on 12 Feb.

Does this sound sensible to other PM cyclists out there? hate not riding butwant to be very careful.....

Heart Rate Monitors

Dear All,

I'm a new member to the PM club having taken ownership of my new unit on the 31st Dec 2012.

I'm a keen cyclist so hope to get back on my bike as soon as possible, do any of your good folks have any advice on when it would be prudent to start cycling again.

Also, I read yesterday (instructions on my Polar HRM) that anyone with a PM should seek medical guidance before using a heart rate monitor. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of this subject, I...

Funny beats whilst running

Hey guys! Happy 2013! Hope it's been a good one for you all so far?!
So...last time I posted on here I was asking if I could do trampolining with a PM (was worried about ripping leads etc)
Didn't find the old club I used to be at so decided to join a gym (not for the 1st time in my life!) but for the 1st time in my life I am running on the treadmill not just walking. Have been doing really well-from someone who couldn't run for 5mins without feeling like I was gonna keel over I have b...

Confused

Hi all, My name is Mike , i live in Spain and I had a pacemaker fitted last July. Before my pacemaker was fitted i was a regular weight lifter. Much to my disappointment after the operation my surgeon and his colleague informed me that any kind of weight training could not be performed, not even light weights as they would damage the cables. I found this site today and was amazed to see that there are people on here training away and all this time I have been sitting here in misery. I can't unde...

Shock knives

Hello everyone!! I need some advice concerning something with work. For my job I need to do ground fighting, defensive tactics, etc. One of the requirements is to learn to fight with edged weapons. Our simulation for this is a "shock knife". It is only a 9 volt battery that gives a tiny shock when it hits your skin to simulate being stabbed or cut. My question is whether I would be able to do this or not since I have an ICD? It would only be a small shock and it would only be external muscles wh...

Fitness monitors

Hello all,

I have seen several posts in regards to heart rate monitors not working properly due to having a pacemaker. I was wondering if anyone with a pacemaker has used the fit bit monitor that tracks, steps, sleep etc. ?

Thanks,
Caryn

Six week milestone

Green light to raise my arm above my shoulder! High five! (ouch). Feeling pretty good - really feeling that improved oxygen. Treadmill walks and regular walks have been good. Now that its OK for upper body exercise, little nervous but I'm committed to start - but easy at first."Sparky" is on the job and performing well. I don't go anywhere without him.Have a great day!

Tingling sensation

Today, whilst doing an ocean swim (along a beach), I got this strange tingling (almost electrical) sensation (after about 1500 metres), which made me feel kind of faint. It passed and then a few hundred metres on it reoccured, so I exited the water as fast as I could. I otherwise felt fine and up to that point I was going "swimmingly". I frequently do this swim and have never had this sensation before. It was kind of scary. I have had my PM for about 9 mouths and am age 68.
Is anyone...

Yoga poses

I rec'd my 2nd pacemaker in 2010, no lead change just pacemaker. My pacemaker location is alittle different because the size is smaller. Anyway, my 1st pacemaker my range of motion was better, did all yoga poses, weights and arm swings. With my 2nd its seems like my range of motion is less. Should I just try harder to go back to the things I did with my 1st. I might be babying myself too much ???
