Just a little helpful info I hope

I do quite a bit of studying on the chemical workings and nutritional needs of the heart and body and just thought this info might be helpful to some. This is taken from a book titled "Reverse Heart Desease Now" written by a "new cardiologist" named Dr. Stephen T. Sinatra:
"Every cardiologist should be interested in the following benefits of fish oil:

Decreases Lp(a), triglycerides, and blood pressure

Increases HDL

Reduces arterial wall inflammation

pacemaker information

My Dr. has suggested that I see a Cardiac Physician regarding a pacemake because my heart rate is too low to suit her. If the Cardiac Dr. says I need one, what is the cooperation period involved with this procedure?

Pacing Sensation

Over the last couple of weeks I've occasionally noted sensations of pacing. Always just a kick or maybe two and they seem to be entirely random. The feeling is identical to the kicks (but lower in intensity) I feel when the EP cranks up the PM voltage during periodic tests. I'm approaching my 5th month after implant and it seems odd that I'd suddenly begin feeling these. They are not painful and really not much of a bother, just a bit odd. About the only function of my PM being used is a lo...

Camp for kids with PM

I'd like to respond to the message sent requesting information about camps that are offered to kids with PM's. The hospital for Sick Children, which is located in Toronto Ontario offers a summer camp to kids with Pacemakers. The camp is open to children that are pacemaker patients at the hospital. It is fully staffed with doctors/nurses etc, and is a great opportunity for the children to meet with others with similar medical concerns....and just to give a little info on the hospital, "Sick Ki...

Sick Sinus Syndrome.

Hello all. My name is Brian and I am 25 years old. I have always been an active person, however lately I do not have enough energy to stay awake for an entire day. About a month ago I went to the doctor with nasuea, while I was there they found that I had a low pulse. I had several EKG's and all revealed a low heart rate. I have also had two echocardiograms which show my heart as healthy just slow. I ended up in the hospital with chest pains and was admitted for 3 days. While there and being mon...

Military Service

Hi my name is Scott and I am 27. I have had my pacemaker since I was 18 and have had one Pulse Generator replacement. I was born with a complete heart block.

I have been disappointed that I have seemingly been blocked from military service due to my device, and here and there I read all of these stories about military folks with pacemakers. What gives? Also, recently I found out I may not even be allowed to become a police officer with my pacer :(

Does anyone have advic...

airport security gates

The written literature I've read says that you should not go through the security arch/arbor when entering the gate area at airports. Instead, you should alert security people that you have a pacemaker.
That leads to a special, time-consuming examination of your person, wand waving, pat-downs, etc.
I phoned Medtronic and was told it's ok to pass through the arch/arbor, but not to pause on linger inside it.
I've passed through now, with no problem.
Any other experiences you...

pacemaker problems?

Dear Gudrun

I too have had a av node ablation due to chronic atrial fibrillation. You are two years older than I and other than that our conditions seem to be identical. I havent had exactly the same symtoms that you describe but I havent felt well since I had the orginal problem almost two years ago. I have had my pm since Feb. 2007. I have had a lot of shortness of breath and funny movement in the heart area that i cant explain. I was however on Adivan for anxiety for one year...

Back from trip.

Just a message to let you know my wife and I just got back from our cruise. It was a great vacation. The first real vacation I have taken in 30+ years. We started in Las Vegas where I bowled in a tournament. Had a great week there and won $3800.00 in prize money. On top of that won $2,000 playing Keno. That made the cruise that followed a very easy 5 days as there was no worry about spending too much. So we did anything we wanted to do. This was our first cruise and I highly recommend it. Unless...

Bumpy Roads and Fluttering Heart

I have had my PM for 13 months and lately whenever I'm on a bumpy road (I live in PA so there is a lot of them) it feels as though my heart is beating very fast and that it is going to explode out of my chest. If I stop the car it goes away as fast as it started. I never wear the shoulder strap from my seat belt because it hurts my pacer site so much so I don't think it's from being physically manipulated.

I have called my doctor but trying to get a call back when you're dying is...

my wonderful cardiologist Bruce Wilson

this is one message I never thought i would be posting. It is funny how we end up being so very close to the doctors involved in our diagnosis, surgery, recovery and ongoing care. But alot of us do. Dr Bruce Wilson was a dear and loved friend of mine, who also just happened to be one of those doctors described above. We laughed, cried and prayed together. And tho I know, he had a hundred patients, he would always have that time for me. On the evening of the 23rd April 2008, Bruce felt a niggly...

Thanks for changing post time!

Thank you to whoever is responsible for changing the time the posts are listed! The current 7 days or so is soooooooo much better than the last 10 posts! On a busy day the post you may have been really watching can "disappear" and sometimes searching for them isn't so easy...

I like this format much better! Thanks.

Can't fly

Noticed the ad on this page "How soon can I fly again". I was told not so long ago by my cardiologist that he would prefer that I don't fly again in future - have to take holidays in UK which wouldn't be bad if my OH was keen on driving!
I have pulmonary hypertension and believe this is why he has asked me not to fly.
