Hi, My ICD pacemaker defibrillator was implanted on 6/19/13. I feel much better and I am ready to start a serious exercise challenge to lose about 70 pounds. I feel really confident about the lower body and the cardio but I am a concerned about the arm exercises. Does anyone know what arm exercises are safe for people with ICD's and what weight max is safe. I don't want to pull my leads out. I am 49 and I have been heavy since 2nd grade. I do walk, and I have run 5K's and biked long dista...

I have been reading about cardio rehab is this prescribed by the cardiologist or EP? I just feel so incapacitated but reading the post about these runners is inspiring is that something I can try even though I have never ran before?

My site is over a year old.I was doing household jobs and it started aching. It has been about a week. Physical therapy has been uncomfortable lately. Can one dislodge the pacemaker or cause great irritation. It is implanted on my right side as the first on on left side had to be explanted. for doctor error.
I would appreciate any feedback!
Thank you!
:)

Hi all - I had my pacemaker fitted in April of this year. Prior to having it fitted I could do long distance running with only a small amount of breathlessness at the start of the run.
Since having the pacemaker fitted I really struggle to run.
I have to keep stopping because of exhaustion and an uncomfortable feeling in my chest (but no pain).
The hospital staff have adjusted the settings 3 times but it has made no difference.
Funnily enough I can do spinning classes without...

Just as the title says. Got my pacemaker put in. Pretty sore right now. Have to keep my arm at my side for the next couple of days. My kids are pretty uneasy about it, and are kinda nervous about it. I'm not happy about it, But, it is what it is. Gotta keep positive about it....right now ...more for them than for me. Yes, I'm nervous about working out right now. I jog/bike 4 to 5 times a week. Actually I'm pretty bummed about it. Have to go through the motions right now...again...more for my k...

Hi all, my anniversary 1 1/2 years is coming up and I've been going to pilates, working with a trainer and completed my 1st 5k for the season!
This morning I joined a boot camp and at one point I looked up and noticed my lips had turned blue. I stopped what I was doing, focused on my breathing, took a rest with some water. I was near the end of the work out and just took it easy. My lips were blue once more and luckily we were finished.
I am a bit tired still, but nothi...

Just checked into hospital for monitoring. Want to Dr's office earlier b/c of dizziness, shortness of breath. Dr told me to check into hospital for monitoring. Said will probably need a pacemaker. I jog/bike 4 - 5 times a week. So..I'm bummed about it. Still trippin over the news. Glad to hear that you can still work with pacemaker. Any tips on getting started once I get pacemaker?

Greetings
I'm new here so first of all a bit of background. I'm a 61yo male who has been an avid endurance athlete for the past 30+ yrs. Marathon runner and now cyclist. After my second V Tach episode (22 monts apart} I had an ICD implanted a week ago after they were unable to correct the arythmia with an ablation. At the moment I'm on Metoprolol Tartrate 12.5 mg twice a day. My concern is the effect the BB's will have on my ability to exercise. I would appreciate hearing from others experi...

I will have a defibrillator and pacemaker implanted in the next couple of weeks and have some questions regarding my active lifestyle. I am a very active 55 yr old female.
1) I have been a competitive cyclist and runner for the past 25 years, how will this affect my ability to run/cycle again?
2) what is the typical recovery time?
3) anything I should be aware of/prepare for?
thanks for input! jackie

Does anyone do water aerobics after their PM? It can involve a lot of arm and overarm movements, plus working with weights in the water.

Back in June I reported that the initial problem I had with a new bi-ventricular PM had been solved, and I was now experiencing a noticeable improvement in the limitations to my cycling. Less breathlessness climbing hills, more endurance, and more all-round enjoyment. So, I decided to go on a short touring break in the UK Cotswold hills. The bad news is that on the first day out, I hit a pot hole, went over the 'bars, landed on my head and somersaulted onto my back. I don't actually remember it,...

Hey! Hopefully someone here can help me... :D Little background first... I have AV node disease and a bunch of other stuff , but the main thing is that I had a pacemaker implanted about 1 year ago. I am currently going through Preseason Training for Soccer at the university I attend. Yesterday was the first day of legitimate season practice and during one of our practices I had pains that felt like a pinch inside my heart... It's the first time this has ever happened.. I was really scared and my...

I got the idea to write this post while i was at the beach today.. A good thing to know that many cardiologists or doctors forget to say to you ( unless you ask them) is that when you have an ICD you should not swim the following techniques or you should not swim them for a longer period..trudgen or racing stroke, the dolphin stroke..thats what i know.. and the most reccomended swimming style is the back stroke ..beacuse when swimming trudgen or racing stroke there is a chance of pulling your mus...

I am continuing working out. I am doing HIT intervals for 30-45 minutes. I started lifting heavy weights but having very hard time keeping weight off me. I was eating three meals but my doctor just backed me off to two -egg whites fish and spinach. My body fat is about 26 percent so i feel some pain after losing muscle mass. I got a trainer to help me for 6 weeks. I am finding it takes about 2 hrs daily to keep weight off me. I get very frustrated as I have seen no improved muscle tone exc...

After my posting under 'Pacemaker or not that is the question' I have still not decided whether or not to have one fitted. I have found everyone's comments useful and I did meet up with another lady with a pacemaker who runs and after having a good chat I do feel more positive about having one.
As those of you have read my previous postings you will know that I only need one if I want to continue with my running. My question to all of you who run/exercise etc is - after having the...

As for my pacemaker (almost 7 years old) I like to think of it in the terms of the old Timex commercial - takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
