Lower and Upper rates

Just wondering if there is any way to tell how much your pacemaker is pacing, by checking your heart rate. I am taking my BP morning and night so I see my HR 2 X a day and it got me wondering....

My low rate is set at 60 and upper rate at 130. I've felt very well doing my regular activities. Most of the time my HR is in the 70's or 80's. Only a couple of time have I had it 69 or 68. Never anything lower. On my patient portal it says "atrial sensing and  ventri...

Rate setting

Hi

Had a new PM at a new to me hospital 4 weeks ago, one lead was turned off as it's not working and I am told I don't need a atrium lead so I have gone along with this but I am getting palpitations when I go to bed and can feel the missing beat, went back today and asked had my rate been changed and was informed my PM now kicks in at 50bpm and not 60 as its been for 23years they say its to make my heart work harder.

I can't sleep with these new beats I feel apprehensi...

What questions to ask the doctor

This is my first post here. Feeling a little overwhelmed and hoping someone can help me make sense of this PM thing. I was diagnosed with 3rd degree heart block in Dec '19 and received a Biotronic Edora PM. By Feb I was feeling much better, but still had heart palpitations. In my follow up visits the cardiologist said they were nothing to be concerned with.

By April, the palpitations started getting worse, my heart rate would jump from 70 to 115 without any activity....

Thanks in Advance for any insight.

Puts Things in Perspective !

I played in a golf tournament today in a group of 4 . The names were drawn out of a hat .  I was surprised to find out, in the clubhouse afterwards, that 3 of the 4 in my group had pacemakers :-

- All 3 had Medtronics ( the local rep must be good ! )

- Two had Sick Sinus Syndrome, the third had AV block.

- None , apart from me ,had heard of the PM club, none were particularly interested.

- None had a-fib, atrial flutter, PVC's, SVT's  or any...

Permanent PM Required

Hi All,

I have second/third degree AV block and have been advised I need a permanent pacemaker. I’m not symptomatic and finding it hard to come to terms with it all. I’m 33 with 3 small children and I’m scared of not being around to see them grow up. Does anyone have any advice on how to cope with coming to terms with needing a pacemaker and what kind of life changes I will need to make once it’s done? Any advice would be great...

Uncomfortable feeling in throat area.

Hello,    I had surgery Thursday July 23.. 2020 with a CRT pacemaker. I felt good the first two days but on the third day I have a weird feeling in my throat and chest area, not sure how to explain the feeling, like pressure or and a pulse feeling, most times it's when I bend over and or exert myself, I also feel a little winded at times. The other feeling is a flutter or gurgle just below my chest in the upper stomach area. Just wondering...

General info

Hi all just a couple of quick questions as I'm quite new to all this.

First of all how long does it normally take for the hospital to send out the pacemaker I'd card and secondly how many of you guys wear some sort of jewellery that states you have a pacemaker fitted to alert medical staff.

Many thanks

Medtronic Smartphone App

I see there's an app available for Medtronic devices. It seems to have mixed reviews and I get the impression it's  not looked on favourably by the medics here in the UK. Has anyone tried it? Could be handy whilst sauntering round the globe.

Not that there's much globe trekking going on now.

Merlin side effects

I’m 100% paced and have a PM for 8 years and until recently had twice yearly PM check ups.  The query with the magnet placed over my PM made the area very achy for about an hour after the appointment.

with Covid I thought I’d switch to Merlin the St. Jude remote monitoring system.  Last night was the first night.  I had the typical achy pain at 4 in the morning, which I can handle.  What disturbed me however was that I had palpitations and shortness...

PM Hematoma? And ?nerve pain in left arm

I am 1 week post PM implantation, and just now realizing that this big bulge at the site is not normal.

I have a bulge that is about 2.5 inches wide by 5.5 inches long, and when I get up from lying down there is an uncomfortable sensation of thick liquid settling. The size seems to go up and down, and when it's up the pain in my arm is amplified.

I had this at the hospital before discharge, and a nurse casually referred to a hematoma in passing. I was not on m...

New style unit

I have a regular style pacer for rate drop. I had in put in 2009. I only use it nighly when my heart pauses.  I was told last year my battery is good for maybe 4 years. I was told new units are the size of a bullet inserted via the artery in the leg, dropped inside the heart. I assume the old one is removed at that time.   Anyone had a new style unit? How has it worked for you? I live in Canada so my procedure is totally no cost as was the first one. If you had one, what was th...

My Story M (21)

People dont think I have a ICD, people think I'm normal.

I feel normal at times, when I do have my shirt on, when there is no physical bonding.

I'm above average in terms of attractiveness, especially as an asian. 5'10 and abs) People see me as this figure, who is so confident and with his whole life together.

But I dont. Far from it.

Im scared to take off my shirt. Im very scared of confrontation and fighting with a ICD, getting shocked in middl...

I am just grateful to God that I lived long enough to have my ICD put in. So many people are not as lucky as us; even though we sometimes don't feel lucky.
