Hi,
I have had a Boston Scientific Dual lead pacemaker for three years following a complete Av Node ablation.
I am very intolerant to exercise, I feel like I am hitting a brick wall on walking up stairs or just the slightest of inclines. I m only 38 and feel like a 90 year Old, breathless to the point I feel my heart needs to beat more but won't!
Have been told the pacemaker settings are correct!
Does anyone please have any suggestions? I'm seeing pacemaker...

Hi folks,
Well I got to join the club this last week. Not something I had in my plans. I'm right in the middle of training for a 70.3 Ironman. I'm told I can resume cycling and running within a couple weeks but will need to stay out of the pool for 3-6 weeks. What has been the "norm" around here with the athletes?
I had a case of A-Fib a month ago, then an echocardiogram done that was "normal". I wore a monitor for a week and that's when they found that my heart was "taking a br...

Hello all!
I am a new member and was just inducted to life with a pacemaker. Sick Sinus Syndrome and a-fib. Ticker was 28-30 bpm at rest. I am a runner-backpacker & cyclist and had my pacer installed for three weeks today. I started hiking every other day last Tuesday for exercise - slow - to avoid pulling leads or messing something up but I have noticed a definite shock sensation in what feels internal just at the left side right in the sternum area when walking downhill. No iss...

I had inserted a Biotronik Estella DR-T for almost three weeks ago. I train with a Garmin Forerunner 910XT. Three months ahead I will use a training plan I downloaded from Garmin's website. I like to train with heart rate zones.
How can I calculate my heart rate zones so they look right so I'm getting better? Especially in running. Once I start running put my pacemaker pulse up to max (155), where it stays until I start to walk again. (That will be zone 5 during the hole pass...

Dear all,
I was wondering whether anyone who works out in the gym or goes swimming and has had a PM (+/- a subclavian clot) has ever had throbbing pain around subclavian and the left neck when exercising and raising their heart rate? I have tried to get answers elsewhere (medical folk) and after a long break from this site - last year sometime I think, figured I would see if anyone on here, however far flung, may be able to help?
It would just be nice to know if it is a...

Does a heart rate monitor wristwatch with a chest sensor work with a pacemaker ? If so what is the best basic one I should get? With my heart problems I had before the pacer , they would never work right.

I had my pm implanted four months ago. Tomorrow I am going back to my Pilates course for the first time since. Are there any movements I should be careful about? Stretching? Any ideas on the subject?

Hi everyone.
I've read in quite a few forums about people asking if they can do or can continue to do martial arts once they have pacemakers and the answers and comments that have been posted that it differs depending on the GP or Doctor.
I have always been a fan of martial arts and have always been keen to learn, not only for exercise but also for self defence, as, lets face it, the world has gotten dangerous and every advantage taken now will benefit later on.

My doctor has informed me that, while it is not imparative that I get a pacemaker immediately, he says that I will need one sooner rather than later. I am thinking of getting it done now so I can train at least a little bit for Summer Nationals in August. My doctor says that I will feel better and train better with a pacemaker. Is he correct? I have a very low heart rate which is why my doctor is recommending a pacemaker.
Does anybody have advice for me? Should I get the inevitable o...

Just had an ICD installed 4 weeks age and still not able to get moving. I had an MI in 2004 and it destroyed 80% of the anterior section of my heart. I have CHF for the last 3 years and my EFR went down to 28%. I'm 52, was in great shape not so great now lol
So anyone else similar? I'm looking for input I guess to settle my mind a little if that makes sense at all to anyone. Thanks.

Hi everybody,
I'm a 58 year old woman who has been doing regular aerobic and weight lifting exercise for the last 38 years.
I had a dual lead PM implanted 16 days ago due to advanced heart block that was causing me to faint. My recovery has been good, I'm back to doing my daily walks combined with exercising on the elliptical machine and no problems so far. My yoga and weight lifting are a different story.
This is where i'm very confused:
1) before the pacemaker doing a lig...

I've had a couple of pulmonary embolisms and subclavian clot. I still have chronic remnants. Is it normal to get a pressure/discomfort like pain when you exercise or increase your hr after all this? Sometimes feels like it is going from my upper chest/neck to my ear and its making me nervous about working out.

I am 18 weeks in with my dual lead BS Advantio and have resumed all my athletic activities. Hiking, biking and walking have not been affected at all. My 2000 yd swim is 3 min slower than
before but I think that's just a matter of practice. The real problem area is running. My legs want to go much faster than the pacemaker allows. My HR accelerates so quickly that at 138-140, I'm still only going about 10:30 per mile. Currently I have had the minute ventilation set at 2 which helps some. M...

I'm a fit 72 year old who had one blackout episode, diagnoses with sick sinus and given a pacemaker with two leads on demand. I'm using it 10% of the time.I'm 12 weeks post op and am trying to get my fitness level back but my "regular" exercise is Yoga (16 years) and the gym where i row and do light weights and machines plus cross country skiing. I am finding my chest wall muscels sore the day after each trip to Yoga or the gym and I read that those exercises can do damage to the leads. any ttho...

I have always known low pulse and a urytme at heart. GP has never cared about this much before in November -13 when I demanded a check of my heart because I had started training for my first triathlon and felt absolutely not normal at all . I have the last two years had many almost fainting in and out of exercise , fatigue , problems with enough oxygen , I felt dizzy during workouts. Finally he sent me to a cardiologist January 27 where I got a meter in 24 hours. 35 bpm at the lowest ... can be...

Hi, I had my pacemaker implanted on Feb 3rd for SSS bradycardia/sinus pauses. I had my 1st pacemaker check on Wed - all good. I asked the tech if there was any gym equiptment I should avoid and she said the rowing machine and any weights with the same back/forward strenuous movement. Is breast stroke ok when swimming and aqua arm movements which are like punching forwards/backwards? especially with hand weights?
Any other arm movements I should restrict myself from doing - e.g.cross body r...
