Tattoos

Hi, I'm 38 and I've had my pacemaker for a year and a half. I was wondering if I was able to get a tattoo? I have a BioTronik two lead device. If that makes any bit of difference.

What would you do? dating and heart devices

Hi,

I hope everyone is doing well. Backstory: I am dating a person, that I am slowly starting to really like, he's spontaneous, fun and shares my love of bike riding - also, he works in medicine. As we get to know each other, intimacy seems like the right next step. Question: should I tell him about my device/heart condition? or let him ask about it - as he will see my scars. I am not embarrassed about my scars, I don't see them as a big deal, but I don...

basic question about rate-response pacing

I have AV heart block and I'm getting an ICD Tuesday (ICD because of likely sarcoidosis diagnosis).

I'm confused about when the rate-response features of a pacemaker come into play. My understanding from my EP is that I have normal sinus node function, meaning that the pacemaker function of my ICD will just be following along with the rate set by my sinus node, which will vary according to exertion level, emotion, etc., as usual.

I understand if you have a sinus...

Violent heart throbs when crouching down

Hi All, I had a dual chamber PM inserted two months ago after being diagnosed with vasovagal syncope due to sick sinus syndrome.  All is going well, apart from the following:  Whenever I crouch down or bend over my heart feels like it wants to explode.  It feels like my heart is throbbing way too hard, and I have to quickly go upright again.  To avoid this sensation I have to go down real slowly when I need to crouch down (e.g. when tying shoe laces or picking something up...

First follow up appointment following implant

I have managed to get a date for my first follow appointment and it's Monday. They said it is with the technicians?

Thanks to the people in this club I have been able to put together a list of questions

Do you think these are reasonable questions or do you think I am being a bit overbearing?

What sort of blocks did have during my time in hospital?
Did I have mobitz 2 or mobitz 1 as thought mobitz 2 was not associated with a lengthening PR interval? and I had a lengt...

2nd opinion and disappointed

Hi all,

Went to a 2nd EP for another opinion.  The answer I got was "settings are right out of the box, in the middle. I don't want to change anything.  Your heart needs to get used to pacing."  By the way, what is meant by that?  You're heart needs to get used to pacing??

I asked if he could put me on a treadmill to see what I'm feeling...he said your cardio may be able to do that?  I am SOB doing basic things like walking or g...

Heart rate remaining high after walk will not drop below exactly 100bpm

Hi all I hope you are all well, I've just got back from a walk and my heart rate will not drop below 100 BPM. I suppose it feels like palpations if I was to describe the sensation.

I've had no caffeine and I normally rest at 60bpm (lower but my pacemaker is limited at the moment as I've not had my first check up)

Any idea if it could be something not working correctly with the pacemaker?

It's very strange it is pacing /beating at exactly nothing less then 100...

Nervous of ramifications

Hello Everyone, I am a reluctant new member to this club. I am due to receive a Pacemaker for Christmas, on 23rd Dec, and am trying to get my head around the change to come. I am 69 and have always been very fit, a regular gym goer for 35 years and runner. Apart from Sick Sinus and AFib arriving earlier this year I am otherwise healthy. Now I am worried that I will be opening a can of worms by having a PM. Will I ever be able to attain my previous existing weight training and aerobic ability?...

Pacemaker dependability

Hi everyone so I had a check up with the EP today and he said that my heart depends on the pacemaker by 2% and 98% is my heart working I just don't get it what's the point of having it then?

Ps. I've been diagnosed with a 3rd degree heart block and I've had the pacemaker for 2.5 months now

I'M NEW

Hi everyone,
Just got my pacemaker 2 days ago. I was terrified when the doctor said I need to have one and I'm very uncertain about how to live with it. I used  to exercise a lot, hitting the gym at least 3 times a week. I love the outdoors and used to go hiking and camping. I wonder if I ever will get to do those activities again. So glad to have found this group.

New to all of this and overwhelmed

Hi everyone,

I got my PM implanted 2 days ago. In October I had to have open heart surgery for aortic valve replacement. I developed 3rd degree heart block in the hospital but it resolved and I was discharged with no issues. However, last week I started experiencing SOB, fatigue and very low HR. Turns out the heart block came back and the only solution was the PM. Doctors really had no answer as to why it would go away for 5 weeks and then come back and apparently it's pretty rare w...

ventricular rhythmus

hello, this is the first time I want to post a question. I live in Germany, so please excuse me my american language. I have a dual- chamber pacemaker implanted three years ago because of a atrial-ventricular block grade 3. soon after the implantation I had a-Fib's. they did not bother me, also the cardiologist didn't.  2 years later the number of the atriumfibrillations went higher and higher. last november I read in the report 98%  AF.. the lower setting point is 60 bmp. m...

Local anesthetic for replacement

Is it necessary to be "put under" for a pacemaker replacement?  Will a local anesthesia be sufficient  Due to unusual circumstances I will not have anyone available to pick me up. I'm hoping to drive myself home. This will be my third pacemaker

Riding Bikes, cold and blue lips

Hello,

I have been doing very well, riding my mountain bike without much trouble, even as it has gotten much colder. However, over the last few weeks, I have noticed that at the end of my ride my lips would turn blue, I have no other symptoms associated with the blue lips.  Tomorrow, I will get my covid test and will be calling my doc on Monday. Has anyone else had this?

PM for an 86 y,o?

Hi everyone,  I'm a 57 y.o male, received an implanted PM in February.  I'm as happy as can be with it.  I don't really think about it, I run, cycle and go about my day.  My mother is 86, she's been having some issues lately with tachy-brady.  The docs are still sorting out just why this is happening for Mom.  My question (really hers) is, is 86 too old for a PM?  She has had an angiogram, there are no blockages, she is relatively speaking, f...

Medtronic care link app

Great site!

Hello,

I just wanted to say hello. I had my pacemaker "installed" 5 days ago. I found this site while researching PMs... as the saying goes, I guess I am battery operated now!

I really appreciate all information, and the people that contribute to this site.

Thank You

Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
