Scuba Diving

Hi all,

just typed scuba dive into search and nothing came up, although I am sure this may have been discussed before.

My question is...

Can you Scuba dive with a PM? If so, are there any restrictions? Depth etc.

Fitness Watches - A Personal Experience

Hi

I have referred to this previously but now have more definitive information on the accuracy of  a Garmin smart watch - at least in my instance.

Aged 73 I was found to have, without symptoms, extensive arterial plaque a couple of months back.  ECG showed 1st degree heart block; Echo and stress tests were fine. My statin med was doubled but no other action taken.

I've long been a walker but "stepped it up" and bought the watch as well.

Backpacking & Other Athletic Pursuits

New to the club..... but, I have had a long history of syncope. Almost always while seated. Over the last few years the consequences of my syncope got more severe (concussion, broken nose with black eyes) and then last year I passed out while driving a car and ended up with a collapsed lung. It was at that point that the doctors stopped passing it off as "just normal fainting" and I was given an internal loop recorder. After over a year of no events (which was strange because the ye...

Billiads

My question is – Would I pull out or damage the leads to my pacemaker?

I have played 8 ball in league for many years but with all the stretching across the table with the arm that the Pacemaker is on can't be good for the leads. In play and practice (three to four times a week - for a few hours at a time), I would repeatedly have my arm stretched out and very much above or at the shoulder height but in a forward laying position over the pool table.

Shotguns

My pacemaker was placed to clear me for urgent surgery. I told surgeon I was a lifelong sporting clays shooter and upland hunter who shoots left handed and he thought it wouldn't be in way. (Not a shooter). Turns out it's exactly where the stock of the gun is placed when properly mounted.  I want to return to my sport but I'm being told by surgeon and Medtronic to just put the gun on the other side which is no option at all.  I'm exploring low recoiling gun with shou...

But I was told to stay away from chest excerises due to the possibilty of damaging the leads. Type or brand of pacemaker

I have been advised to have a pacemaker installed to correct a slow heart rate. I am avid scuba diver and I contacted the medical staff at Divers Alert Network (DAN). They told me that if I am otherwise fit I could continue to scuba dive but that I needed a pacemaker that could withstand the pressure of 4 atmospheres of water (about 130 feet). Does anyone know which units are so rated?

Nothing has changed

I'm a fairly active 84yr.old and last year during a short break in a spinning class at the Gym, the instructor asked if anyone had a heart condition.  There were a few gasps when I mentioned my Pacemaker.

To me it is a safety device which adjusts my heart rate as necessary to compensate for increased exertion but several others seemed to think that I should be 'taking it easy'  but Gym exercises and swimming are just a weekly routine to me.

New Pace maker /athlete

Dear pace maker friends

I was diagnosed 12 years ago with sinus bradycardia due to Right brachial Branch block. Lived and exercised regularly with resting HR 42bpm, at night 38bpm. Max HR during exercise was 100bpm. No light headedness, no fainting. Recently I  had severe breathing problems. At ER my resting HR was 32bpm. Next day (Sept. 4), a Medtronic pm was placed with two leads.

I started walking on treadmill after two weeks. I was not happy with my HR on treadmill....

Pacemaker and weight lifting

I had a dual lead pacemaker implanted five weeks ago. What are my limitations in regards to weightlifting exercises. My general pre-pacer routine consisted of overhead press, shoulder press, lateral raise, seated dip, arm curl, pectoral fly, and chest press.

I have a follow up appointment in ten days, but curious as to what others have been told.

Thanks in advance.
