Hi everyone my 20 year old son has been told he needs an icd but says he needs more time to decide . He is active and loves wakeboarding and snowboarding and is worried he wont be able to carry on with these sports. Are there any other wakeboarders out there and did any of you take a while to come around to the idea of having the icd. I am finding it hard to understand why he is refusing it when his life could be at risk. He has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and an mri scan has showed scarring whi...

Hi
Eleven weeks ago I had a lead revision to my Medtronic Adapta pacer. I am paced 99% of the time from the ventricle and that lead went bad. I am 41 and have had a pacer for 6 years with two lead revisions and one pacer upgrade.
My Doc removed the bad lead and then placed the devise under my pec. Well at about week 5 I thought it moved, followed up decided to play it conservative and waited 5 more weeks. I have considerable swelling, weakness and pain. Apparently it has d...

I had a pacemaker inserted in early August, 2009. The pacemaker is below and against my left clavicle.
1. I golfed for the first time today and found that the pacemaker rubs into the left clavicle on the backswing limiting my ability to make a full turn. Does anyone else have this problem? Was their pacemaker placed in a different location away from the clavicle to prevent this problem?

Thanks Tracey, If you note in my original message I have the implant on the right. My question is has anyone had any success/failure using the upper arm to rest the butt of the rifle, as opposed to resting it on the chest wall.?

Just had a pm implanted 9/26, and doing well at present. I was implanted on the right side of the chest because of an av fistula in the right arm. Things were done in a bit of a rush as I had "coded" the evening before. At any rate didn't know that using the rifle would be a problem until after the fact. I am right handed, and rest the butt on right side. Has anyone any experiece with resting the butt on the right upper arm? Sure would like to talk with anyone with a similar problem.

I am 26, and have been recently become aware of my low heart rate. I have come close to collasping twice in the last two months due to have difficulting in breathing. not sure if related to my heart. I find when I am resting my breathing is very difficult and feel like i cant get enough oxygen, but when i am running breathing is easy.
I wake up unable to breath so I do press ups or go up and down stairs before trying to sleep again.
But I have to push myself to do this.

I am on my 3rd pacemaker. I am dependent. I called Medtronic
to ask about getting into target shooting. She said it was fine. She thought I could even use a 39 caliber and maybe a 9mm.
I purchased a 22 caliber. My question is are there any of you that do hunt or shoot pistols for target practice. I still have my original leads. I haven' gone to the range as yet. My pm is in my right shoulder and I am left handed. I also was going to fire my 22 rifle.
Thanks for any help. -...

Today was the day. I got aggressive with exercise and decided to do an AM and PM routine. I used the old Charles Atlas course. Remember him? Sand kicked in his face!!! The exercises are called DYNAMIC TENSION and mimic the big cats at the zoo. Lots of push/pull stretching, pushups, etc. working one muscle against the other. I put some real snap in it and felt good about it.

What are you doing to keep fit? I've been slow at this but am walking, Gazelle, Weights. We can't just let go, can we? We also can't run marathons either. Please share your routine and any tricks. I always park far away in a lot so I can walk more. I'm at 10/weeks PM.

Hey Gang, this past Sunday I went to the driving range. It was a nice day and I hadn't been to the range since July(the start of my ordeal) I got a small bucket of balls(31) and divided them into piles of three. I began with my pitching wedge. I'm at 10 wks. now. I slowly dragged the club back and struck the ball. My first shot was good and I hit the green. I continued then went to my 7 iron. I gave it more power and the ball travelled as a 7 iron should. Great!
Next up was my 25 deg...

Well it's 9/weeks and I'm talking about last Sunday 20th. It's a sunny day, around noon...the seasons in full swing for many and winding down for some(football). No way will football wind the season down for me. Occasional radio and score is all I need. Football 2nd...Golf 1st...sorry Rothliesberger and Steelers, etc..
It's 77 degrees here in Southwestern PA. Nice. Nice breeze. I will break in with my pitching wedge and will attach a small donut type weight to add club weight. My warm...

I had a pm implanted two weeks ago and have started my speed walking again. Is that normal that I've been able to begin again so quickly. The difference is that I am not short of breath.

Hi Everyone, quick question for anyone that may have some feedback to this issue.
I was told that with a pacemaker you were not suppose to be shooting rifles/shot guns that have a "big kick" to them. But what about pistols? Is there a pistol out there that is pacer friendly or would any pistol be pacer friendly? Wanting one for home and personal protection.
Thanks and appreciate any and all comments.

Off I go on this cool afternoon(this past Friday) It's almost fall. Weaving thru the big oak trees...some must be 70 yrs. old. Left, Right, l,r,l,r lenghtening my stride, hearing the click of my pedometer. I am walking west towards the sun to a 8 acre pumpkin patch. Pumpkins everywhere. Hundreds!
I hang a right and pace up the hill. Near the top I pause and enjoy the sunset. Hey guys/gals we're alive!!! How do I know? I check my pulse watch. My pulse is 90.
I now have 9/wk...

Went out for a real mt. bike ride today for the first time since implant and finally feel like I am back. Hit 105% of my theoretical max on a nasty, long climb and rode hard and even if it was only an hour ride it felt GOOD. First time breaking my theoretical max since surgery and now I feel like I can finally get myself back to the person I used to be. The damn little metal thing in my chest is not going to rule my life and I plan on getting back to the athlete I once was.
