My friend is going to see the doctor next Friday. This is the scheduled visit to have his ICD interrogated. I need your help on what he needs to bring up during this visit. Here are my thoughts. Please feel free to add, or correct :)
I was thinking about the rate response in his ICD. I dont think it is on right now. I feel it might be helpful to turn it on. Right now his lower setting is at 60. Several doctors have recommended he lowers it to 50. He is reluctant. This time I think he...
Redness
I had my second Medtronic ICD implanted in May 2010, the 1st one was running low on battery power after 8 years. There has been some redness around the wound site since the implantation which has dramatically increased recently. I visited my GP who prescribed an antibiotic, and this week I saw my Cardiologist for my 6 monthly check up. He was concerned and told me to take a second course of the antibiotics, monitor my temperature, and see him in a month.
I feel well, don't have a tem...

If someone has a defibrillator implanted, how long does it take for that person to be able to raise their opposite arm over their head?
burning pain
I am a 25 y/o female with Long QT Syndrome. I had an ICD implanted almost two weeks ago. At first I had a lot of pain due to some difficulty the doctor had getting the device in.
Now, any time I move, I have this burning like pain about an inch below my incision. It feels like someone is slicing me with a hot knife.
I have also had skipping heart beats since the surgery, is this normal? Thank you

I am a 41 year old female who had surgery 9 years ago in Chicago to repair a coarctation of the Aorta. I went in for a routine procedure last week and the Dr. refused to do the procedure because my heart rate was between 28-32 bpm. I was at my Cardiologist’s office 5 weeks before to have an EKG and an ultrasound of my heart and was told I am fine to exercise and that my heart was in good shape.
I went back to same Cardiologist who had me wear a 24 hour Monitor and now he t...

My husband just (a few days ago) had an ICD implanted. He had been SOB and was found to have a complete heart block. He is on Coreg, Lasix, and Linsinipril, and I am so disappointed that he is not feeling any better.
I know it has been a short time, but was hoping for improvement. I think those medications are causing some mental problems-he is foggy, gets confused, and has some odd stories, and this happened only after he started those (been on those since January). He goes Th...
New to this
I am glad to find a site with positive encouragement. I am 35 and had been having blacking out spells and a week ago today I was diagnosed with ventricular tachycardia and had an ICD implanted. I was told you are too young and you look healthy. I do live an active live and have for years. I look forward to reading the encouragement from this site. I lost my mother 11 years ago at the age of 47 to a massive heart attack with no symptoms so this all hits close to home.

Neck Surgery Over..
Yea. I had my neck surgery March 8th and the surgeon said there was no problems. They put a magnet over the defibrillator to cut it off during the procedure. I was very scared because only 6 months ago my EF was 10 and a month ago it was in the 20's. I am 100% dependent on the pacemaker. I am hoping that with time my heart muscle will get stronger. My world got crushed when I found out I had severe Cardiomyopathy. Up until about a month ago I felt that my life was over but I was determined to ge...

I am having an ICD implant done soon and am wondering if it will be safe to work in a machine shop using lathes, milling machines and CNC's ? I would think this would fall into Industrial tools which use large electrical motors to run them. If someone would respond to this would be very helpfull.
thanks

Hello everyone. This website is great. You all have a way of making everyone feel better about what they are going through. I decided after finding this website that I needed a 2nd opinion. The EP that my cardio sent me to was so negative about everything. She didn’t explain very much to me. She told me to come in and we will put this ICD in. After one week we will check it then we will see you once a year. She also told me she could not put the ICD in the pectora...

When I got my ICD on Sept 2, 2009 I was scared but then on Sept 5, 2009, while at a church outing, my ICD misread my heart and shocked me 14 times in 15 mins. Now they try to tell me it is working the way it should be, but they also told me when it misread and hit me 14 times that my ICD was damaged but they are truly lieing and now the fear is even more scarey to me.

Has anyone ever had their wire replaced?
I recently found I had a wire leading to my left ventricle that was showing more resistance than it should. They turned up the power to that wire to make it work like it should. This means that my ICD will have to be replaced much sooner that it should have. They told me that when the battery does deplete (approx. 1.5 years left at this power setting) I need to have that wire replaced. I also have an older wire from first ICD implantation. So I have two wires to remove and replace and was wonder...

I have chickened out, this ICD scares me. My appt. is 1week from today. This is so crazy, I just found out I have Bundle Branch Block. My heart only pumps at 35% and meds are not helping. The doctor said it’s not any worse but it’s not any better. Treated me with meds for 3 months; now they say I need an ICD. I didn’t even feel bad until they put me on meds. I don’t even feel like there is anything wrong with me. Is 35% really bad enough for an...

A properly implanted and adjusted pacemaker will not even be noticeable after you get over the surgery.
