My first pm was 9/11/09. By the end of the year, I had to have both leads replaced. Seems they "slipped" and were no longer tightly connected. They explained that this was using up the battery at 3X's the rate.
I had the second surgery on 2/18/10 and it was much, much easier than the first, both physically and mentally. Is it unusual to have to have a procedure repeated within four months?
Thanks.

Ok, I have had my ICD since 4/06 and had a rough start the miss readings and being shocked when it wasn't needed but I just got informed that my battery will be dead within the year and have the lead wire that has been recalled and need to have it removed. My dr said this is very life threatening and has really scared me, I am no stranger to surgeries as I have had 3 open heart and several other minor ones but the fact that my dr seems to not be very confident is bothering me the most. Has anyon...

Hi,
I had pacemaker placed on February 5th 2010. I had a low heart rate and was always tired. Well after surgery I was healing, but still felt weak. On Wednesday February 10th I was feeling faint and felt alot of palpitations, during my sleep as well. So I called my doc on Thursday Morning and he said its probably nothing serious, but the palpitations seemed stronger and stronger as I did things around the house, so around 9 am I headed on to Hospital ER.
They did tests and had the Med...

In preparation of an released study....I just wanted to let you all know that a meta-analysis is being published describing battery longevity among 4 major manufacturers (Biotronik, Medtronki, St Jude, and Boston Scientific.)
The most important thing to know before anyone gets mad that their doctor didn't put in the longest battery company, is that many factors go into which company device is implanted. While battery life is important, it is not typically at the top of the list with...

Hi everyone,
I have an old lead which is the lead responsible for all the pacing - I am not pacer dependant in the other chamber.
It is 18 years old and my doctor thinks I should leave it next change which could be in 6 months.
Every time I exercise in the past 2 weeks I have been feeling a twinge - or pull under the pacer - the leads I suspect are above that (site was on top of breast area).
I would love to hear from others:
1. With old lea...

Anyone in Florida had a lead extraction? I have 4 leads (2 active/2inactive) and need to make room for more.

Those of you who've had experience with adding a new lead that doesn't fit on the left side, how was it handled? Was the device moved to the right side, or the device kept on the left but the new lead run from the right? SuperSurgeon (more polite than the other names I have for him LOL) said if the lead didn't fit in the vein on the left that he'd tunnel it to the right side and put it in the vein there, but leave the device and currently working lead on the left. I'm not going with this guy any...

I got the second opinion suggested by so many - and - lo and behold - it seems the lead had indeed moved. (Hence the sharp burning pain in my chest.......) Revising the lead was suggested - and completed this past Friday. Seems the newest (and until Friday - not working) lead had bonded (albeit inappropriately) with the failed lead. The extraction process is not to be described for the faint of heart (so to speak) but includes a drill and other (fortunately - not necessary at the very last...

Here's the lastest
I just talked to the cardio's nurse. Looks like we will do it Thurs for sure.
I'm well known at Medronic. She had the field rep call me back to answer questions. Just got off the phone with my friend at Medronics. He and I went over the new pacers technology, and how he would program it. All should be pretty much the same as my old Kappa 701. Darn, no adjustment knob.
I also found out a bit more about the changeover. They run the dependency te...

Hello! My husband is on his 2nd pacemaker. He is now showing a low impedence and insulation fracture. If it quits working he has another lead that will work his pacemaker but he will have symptoms from it such as palpitations and shortnes of breath. His local cardiologist suggests we get the lead extracted and get a new one now. The cardiologist at The Cleveland Clinic said we should wait until the pacemaker needs changed because it will increase his risk of infection if it is done now due...

Wondering if I got hit in the chest with a descent amount of force and my pacemaker broke or the leads got loose or something... Would I know it? No bleeding, no swelling but I'm really sore and tender there after my daughter got me good by accident. Since I pace about 1% of the time how would I know?
Any thoughts? Thank you as always

How do all of you know about the leads, etc. etc. of you pacers. I've had mine since 12/16/02 ;o) which has made my life wonderful. I know it's getting near battery replacement...how does one know other than the 6 month dial in test? What if it decides to STOP......I have it as a result of arrythmia and it paces my heart....it goes dead....I go dead;-(

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
