I am 82 and have had a PM for three years to maintain heart from going "below" 60 and fainting. When I have annual PM checks, I ask the corporate rep to turnoff or raise level to 80 to check heart is working on its own to stay at 60. So far it has. I am active, mountain hike and power race...more.
I have always taken stress tests for my cardilogist on treadmill prior to PM. I have one scheduled and he ordered the chemical induced test rather than the tre...

Hi All,
I have just been for my half yearly check up, the doctor has reviewed my pacemaker & analysed the recorded information on the PM, he has stated he is very happy with everything he sees & has given me the all clear to go travelling & engage in activities I enjoy, cycling & climbing etc.. With the guidance that I will now only require one yearly check up.
However, during my check ups I constantly state that I enjoy being active & enquire about optima...

First, I really appreciate this website. My world feels rocked.
I will have a dual chamber PM or a biventricular PM installed in early June. I am a 53 year old avid runner and triathlete and thank goodness the doctors in Cleveland finally figured out what was going on: LBBB and AV node block. Anyone out there with this issue?
Doctors say it will probably take some time to "dial me in" because my issues occur at higher bpm. I...

Dear all,
I had a pacemaker implanted about 5 and a half weeks ago and am glad to have found this site. My doctor agreed that I could begin swimming again at six weeks. I've read in some information posts on the web that it's advisable to start with breaststroke at six weeks, but to wait three months before initiating freestyle and backstroke so as not to risk pulling on the wires. Do any of you have experience with this?
Also, does anyone know when it...

I had a pacemaker put in about 7 years ago. Medtronic it is good except I am a runner and about a year ago I purchased a Matrix Treadmill. Lately I have been doing training runs that adjust incline and speed depending on HR. I find any time I try to use this feature because of the pacemaker and response time of actual HR, the beginning of programs the treadmill increases speed and pace WAY to fast/up incline. Example at the start of any work out my HR is 60 it takes a while for the pacemaker...

I'm amazed that Christian Eriksen a professional footballer from Denmark is back playing soccer professionally after having been fit with an ICD to prevent another bout of ventricular fibrillation that almost killed him 9 months ago in the middle of a match. I thought that rough sports weren't allowed if you have a cardiac device implanted. If this is so, many members of this club that worry about how much physical activitiy they can handle, will be very happy wit...

I am 73 years old and a long time swimmer. I had a PM replacement last May after I broke a wire in my Medtronic setup implanted in 12/18 for SSS. I had been frustrated in the pool but was making progress. My EP and I agreed that the Boston Scientific Accolade would be a better device for me. At this point, it is not. I am something like 7-10% off my previous performance levels. My bad days are really bad and seem to occur randomly. My land based activities seem t...

Just been put on Sotalol recently (120 mg twice daily) and cycled for the first time today since being on the med. Had zero power! Generally ride around 160 watts - today 110! Heart rate would hit 100 and then drop to 80 and that was the pattern for 20 miles. Normal average is between 125-130 bpm. Being treated for ventricular tacky arrhythmia and been on the med for 5 days. Does this get better with time or do I need to seek a different avenue for treatment?

Question, I have had my PM for over 7 years. My doctor recently turned on my rapid response setting as my heart was not speeding up with movement. Now when I walk fast to exercise I get a dull ache when my heart rate gets to about 120. If I sit and rest heart slows down properly and ache stops. Then I walk fast again and it aches again. Doesn't ache at any other time. Is this because I'm so out of shape? And just need better conditioning? Dr says I'm 100% paced on the t...

Hi all
I had a CRT-D fitted some two weeks ago. All is going well and the wound is healing nicely. My surgeon tells me not to do much for the first two weeks as we need to make sure the wires stay in place.
I am a retired mountain guide, based in Granada, Spain and would now like to get back to visit my beloved mountains. I am nearly 67 so I had naturally been slowing down in the years prior to my heart attack (March 2019). The HA left me with 34% EF. Since then I...

I was fitted with a Boston Scientific Proponent L211 pacemaker in September 2020. I was suffering from AV blocks and a very low heart rate below 30 when sleeping. I have since been diagnosed with Artrial Fibrillation.
I am 81 years old and a keen cyclist having cycled over 17,000 miles in 2021.,
The pacemaker is set to increase my Heart Rate to a maximum of 130 according to my exertion levels. Initially this function operated during all my cycle rides.

I have AV block and rely on my CRT-D to pace the ventrical (atrium provides pacing). I am active and my current device has a max tracking rate of 150, which I exceed occationally despite never being able to exerting myself fully. I am getting a new CRT-D today and would like my new one to have a higher tracking rate. They are reccomending an Abbot Gallant HF. Any idea what the max tracking rate is for ventricular pacing of that model (or recommendations of other models w...

Hi there, I'm a 58 y.o male, I've been very active all my life. Commute one each way by bike when weather permits, run a couple of times each week. I got an implanted dual lead Medtronic Azure close to two years ago. It's been a game changer for me. No more lightheadedness due to a resting pulse of 35. A couple of weeks ago I got up quickly from the couch, went outside and shovelled the three or four inches of snow from our driveway, then went for a 4...

Hi All, newbie here (7 weeks out) very excited to be a member (not...)
Anyway-58 yrs old-physically active all my life. Had the pleasure of experiencing 3rd degree hear block. Flat line 10-11 times. What a way to spend a Saturday night.
My question: any issues with cold temps? Winter is just starting and I will be hiking/skiing/snowmobiling/etc. Was out walking tonight temps in single digits (F). I swear I could feel a cold/tight spot at my device. Is COLD an issue? As any metalli...

Any new info on safety of the Hydrow rowing machine? I am 6 months post-op. If I limit rowing to 3 days a week am I risking an incident with my leads? If anyone out there has rowed without incident please comment because now I'm hesitant after reading the 2014 thread, but my dr says "no restrictions."
