Shooting, high power rifles, shot guns, high power pistols

I have been told by one of my cardiologists that I should not shoot a shotgun because

it could possibly break a lead. Does anyone have any different input on this?

Beta Blockers - Bisoprolol

Another question PM friends. I'm now 10 days post implant following a 2nd degree IRBB heart block. Pre-implant r.esting HR 37 - sleeping HR 29. Over the past 2-3 years during exercise / training I've noticed difficulty in reaching any target training heart rates (80%) in spite of increased effort. Sooooo,,,, PM implant to elevate HR but why would I also be prescribed a beta-blocker to lower HR? Yes,,, I have asked the Dr but has anyone else experienced this and would you know why...

Fitness

I finally got to see my consultant and after a chat the end result was to play about with my bisoporol dosage.
My main issue amongst lots of little ones, is the inability to maintain effort. Hill walking has become increasingly difficult and putting in more umph when kayaking is again very difficult.
We've tried to archive the optimum  settings to avoid my AT and the fact my atrial rate increases faster than needed. ( this seams to have happened post implantatio...

Atrium lead dislodgment

Hi everyone I had a dual lead Boston Scientific pacemaker inserted end March 2024.

I have a 2 to 1 heart block age 60.  About 4 weeks after insertion I started walking and one day felt a block. 6 week check showed all leads were working fine. After about 7 weeks I started running and had to stop after 2 weeks feeling of block.

Before operation I was lifting compound barbell weights 3 times a week (strength training)

My surgen advised and even wrote on my not...

Pacemaker protector

Hi All, I have just had a CRT-D fitted a couple of weeks ago. I have been playing netball for over 40 years and want to return to playing when I am well enough to do so. I was thinking it might be a good idea to wear some kind of protection over my CRT. Can any of you recommend any that you may have come across please? Thank you. Chris

push ups and pull ups

Hello! I've been doing push ups through all my life but started actively doing them recently. When i last visited my doctor he told me that doing push ups and pull ups are not good idea because they can lead to pacemaker ripping off the skin or leads failure. I'm here to ask if it is safe to do like normal amount of push ups and not pushing to limit and your opinion about that. im also teenager if it matters

Biotronic CLS system

Like 45% of endurance athletes I have an atriopathy. When I lay off the gas for long enough for my sympathetic drive to decrease sufficiently during a workout (coasting downhill on a bike, stopping at a traffic light, taking the skis off to cross the road and then putting them back on) I go into 2nd degree AV block. I feel the AV dyssynchrony as being completely gassed and unable to continue until the block resolves about 10 min later. I was given two options: exercise less or get a pacer. Ea...

How to train with AF/AT

So 7 weeks post implant (Abbot Assurity), that was put in for Brady and early stage heart block with Afib.
Brady solved with PM but I have 21% of it switching into AMS because of AT or AFib. AT has been measured at 640bpm but can't say how long they last? Anyway I am an active fit guy, mostly sure that hasn't helped over the years now!
Today I walked for 10k at a good pace but my heart rate wouldn't climb to what I would expect . Came home and sat down and th...

Return to golf after pacemaker implant.

I had a pacemaker fitted 7 weeks ago. Unfortunately, I picked up a post -operative wound infection which didn't respond to 3 weeks of antibiotics. I have had a little local soreness, but no fever/temperature. I was shocked last week to be informed by my cardiologist that the infection appeared to have spread to the pacemaker itself and that I would therefore need:

1. the current pacemaker to be removed.  2. 10 days on an intravenous drip.  3. a new pacemaker fitted o...

Medtronic Azure RR programming for runner/swimmer/peloton

Hi Everyone, Hoping for some advice.

Im heading into the Cardio tomorrow for a check up 3 weeks post op and a reprogram of my Medtronic Azure DRI device. I have had some issues related to rate response at low to moderate activity levels ( jumps straight up to max rate) that I discussed in another post.

Doing some research I see that the customer programming for RR on Medtronic lets you set a threshold, an ADL ( average daily living ) rate and an Upper Response rate. To effectively...

Creatine Supplement

I'm considering adding a creatine supplement (pre-workout) to help on heavy exercise days.  Wondering if anyone else uses it.  Curious as to how this could impact (if at all), my PM function.  I've a Medtronic Azure (5 monts ago) to manage an ideopathic LBBB with an reduced (but now improving) EF.  No other cardiac issues (electrical or otherwise).  Current settings are 50-160 - no rate response.  Oh, I've also requested to have the upper se...

Medtronic settings for walker/runner/swimmer

Hi everyone, new to the forum and grateful for any advice on this issue. Reposting as i had this on general, but realized its probably more exercise related.

I am a very new pacemaker owner, having only had my device 2 weeks today. It is a Medtronic Azure XT DR MRI Surescan.

I have a two lead device treating a "sick sinus syndrome" that was diagnosed in a regular checkup (25 bpm HR) and a PM fitted immediately.  I also have an exercise induced right bundle branch bl...

Motorcycle riding with a pacemaker

My husband will be getting a pacemaker soon.   Can you still ride a motorcycle with a pacemaker?  The doctor just sent us an information packet which says something about not doing car engine work when the engine is running.  So he is wondering about riding his Harleys.   I hope you have some good news for us!  Thanks, this is a bit over whelming at first.  Then, we have what seems like such a wait for it, 7 1/2 weeks.

SOB & Exhaustion during exertion

I am 4 months post implant - Biotronik 2-lead for acute bradycardia. When I arrived at ER in May my HR was 36. The day prior to going to ER I walked 6 miles with ruck pack weighing 25lbs. I am 70 and have exercised my entire adult life. I weigh 162lbs. Today I shoveled gravel into a wheelbarrow and had to stop every 2 minutes, kneel, and just breathe. The task took forever. I am walking without the Ruck backpack for now because I get too winded on any kind of hill. Had device check and tech r...

Best setting for runners

I am a 56/yo runner and received a Boston Scientific pacemaker 5 years ago for Mobitz Block 2. Pre-pacemaker, my resting heart rate was very low but running was never an issue for me. Currently atrial pacing is 20% and ventricular pacing is 70%. My ventricular pacing has increase significantly as I was pacing in the low 20's when it was first implanted.

Since receiving the pacemaker running has gotten progressively worse. Early on I described the feeling as hitting a wall...

Pacemaker newbie

Hi,

I'm completely new to the pacemaker community and am just realising how little I know!

I am 64 and active runner and walker.  My pacemaker was fitted a month ago after I passed out a few times within a couple of days, having never passed out in my life before and zero previous heart issues.
It appears I have sick sinus syndrome?
Anyway, I'm a month on and awaiting the time in a couple of weeks or more when I can get back running. I'...

Continued symptoms while exercising

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this. Had a pacemaker installed in June after being diagnosed with level 2 heart block. I only experienced "heart drop" during cardio (running, elliptical, etc) and only after reaching 140 HR.

Now trying to recover my cardio capacity post-PM. When attempting to run, I experience 5-6 "heart drops" over the course of the first 5 minutes. They taper off after 10 minutes. I find it necessary to engage in a long, slow warm up so that the...
