recently implanted pacemaer

I had a St.Jude pacemaker implanted a week ago today, started casually walking but will probably take it easy for 5-6 weeks.
My hope is to get back into kayaking. I am a touring kayaker and not a whitewater kayaker. I have read the caution re. kayaking but I can adjust my paddeling to avoid a lot of overhead motions.

5 mile race for my 60th

could not find a race on my actual B-day. So we drove to New Hamspshire for the weekend so we could do a 5 miler the day after. 8-2 We (the wife and I) both ran the fireroad 5 miler in Kingston NH, my time was a little better than I had thought I could do, I really had not been training due to RR issues with my PM. Had a wonderful B-DAY weekend and race, back to the factory tomorrow. Now it is really time to start training for the 100 mile bike ride end of Sept and 1/2 Marathon in October.

Boxing Excersice

Hello,

I hope everyone is doing good. I was wondering if Boxing excersice is okay. I am not talking about going head to head with someone, just the excersice like, punching- bag, jumping jacks and all that other good stuff.

ICD Settings and Rate Response?

Hi, so I was implanted with an ICD in April. I am also on beta blockers. I am athletic and run. I suffered from a SVT while running prior to that and a fainting episode. I have scar on my ventricles and with every test imagineable, it remains undiagnosed. So I am back at running, with my trusty heart rate monitor. Not as much as before, and much slower, but happy and feeling good. My rate response for my ICD is now off. I have a little residual fatigue and my doc suggests we turn the rat...

Does a PVC cause a PM to begin pacing?

My PVC events only occur during strenuous exercise. I have a pacemaker because of 2nd degree A/V block. Sometimes during running, my PVCs trigger an SVT/AVNRT event. I've had an ablation procedure done that has eliminated nearly all of my SVT events. But, I still have a few PVCs during running. Immediately following a PVC, my breathing rhythm feels very labored and inefficient and usually continues that way until I stop. Usually after stopping, for as short of a period as 15-30 seconds, I...

Pacemaker placed 10 days ago

I had a pacemaker placed 10 days ago. I was told to take it easy for 2 weeks and not put my arm above my head in that time.

I normally lead a very busy, active life. I run a horse farm and my daily activities include: carrying water buckets, walking fences, carrying 50lb grain bags, throwing multiple bales of hay, running, riding, and dealing with lifting all sorts of things.

How long should I be NOT doing my normal activities? It's killing me to sit and watch this...

PM + TR.....................

................just back from my 6th Adidas 24 hour Thunderun weekend in the UK. Shatteringly hot weather,.. 3 X 10 k relay runs,..the second in the woods at night...epic. My team of seven smashed out times to give us 24 laps of the all off-road circuit. TR 14 is quite probably the most gruelling challenge in the UK,...2700 runners in all. Magic !

First 5k in Berlin summer heat

I participated in my first (official) 5k run yesterday evening, and finished in exactly 32:00 minutes! Given that the temperature was 30 degrees Celsius, I am really proud of this time. Heart rate was high, mostly max. CLS rate of 160, but also had episodes of 170-190bpm due to an atrial intrinsic rhythm kicking in and being tracked by the ventricular lead. It was okay - exhausting, but breathing was fine, and legs were fine, too.

The run took me up and down the "Ku'Damm", one of the...

Back to Skydiving!

I've just been signed off as ok to get back to skydiving! 10 weeks post-op.

Understandably, I suppose, my GP wasn't happy signing off with limited specialist knowledge, so I had to go back to a consultant (privately - not NHS. I'm in the UK). But he's now said there's no reason to seek any further specialist referrals for this in the future as long as the regular clinic checks are fine.

The only potential issue comes from direct trauma from the harness over the PM site. I'...

workouts and coping

Hello all I had my PM installed in Nov 2013. I am a 49 year old healthy women. I have went back to most of my activities. I do boxing workouts on a heavy bag. Does anyone else do this type of activity? I have been experiencing tightness around my PM. Its not overall chest tightness, like muscle soreness, its a tightness around the PM feels almost like its being wrapped up or choked.
Is this still part of the healing process? I am still in shock that I have this PM and feel when I c...

Stretching overhead

I am going to PT for groin and hip (not surgery, just injury). The PT told me misalignment, so stretching. One stretch is lying down, take big exercise ball in hands and stretch overhead and back. I notice that it is uncomfortable and its tight in the pacemaker. Does anyone have this problem with tightness ? I notice with my 2nd pacemaker more tightness because its smaller.

RR:
I think it is working great HR looks like it did before PM while running, went up to 158 at the end of the race. was up and down about 30 BPM during running. Took about 2-3 minutes to climb to 130 than the first hill hit 153 normal for me. Prior to the adjustment last week 150 was it.

Also prior to adjustment just could not get my pace/Running speed (not that i am at all fast) but could not run anything near what i should be able to do even u...

Need advice

Hi! I have had my pacemaker for 4 weeks now. I am 61, very active and my only symptom was a thud in my chest when biking up steep hills. The EP study showed 2nd degree heart block. During the EP study, they paced my atrium to "physiological rates" ( which I assume are around 200 bpm) and decided I had Mobitz II and put in a pacemaker while I was drugged from the study. It seems to me that it could have waited as I could never get my heart rate as high as when they paced it, and I would have...

Beta Blockers...! & Running!

I am much slower than I was due to the beta blockers. Is it possible to get a little faster on beta blockers? What used to be 9 min miles is now 10:40-11:30 min miles. Granted I am happy to be running again, but the betas definitely suck the life from you. I am hoping my doctor will tweek the dosage slightly. I do need to be on them due to a sustained vtach which I experienced. Anyone else chime in on beta blocker experiences?

Heart Rate Monitor

OK folks. I am now a Heart Rate monitor expert - just kidding but I do have some really good information to share. After reading a bunch of opinions on heart rate monitors, I decided to buy a Garmin 310XT. It uses a chest band to pick up the electrical signals from your heart (like most of them do) to measure heart rate. It seemed to be working fine; it read my heart rate accurately at rest so why wouldn't it be accurate when exercising? In fact the unit says it is more accurate as you warm...
