Interesting visit with the cardiologist. She said I had an extreme pain reaction during surgery when they placed the leads into my heart which is why I was kept overnight for observation and why I had such horrible pain that night. Based on the appearance of my scar, she said my incision and pocket are still healing and "knitting" and that the rest of my pain/discomfort is likely nerve compression. She thinks it will all resolve over the next couple of months. Overall, my body doesn't like s...

Hey everyone. I’m having my 1st replacement soon and I’m just wanting to know what your recovery was like. I’m just getting the box changed. The leads are fine as far as I’m aware. Did you need any time off ofwork and if so how long?
Thanks
Laura :)

I took 2 pain pills before bed last night for my shoulder, neck, and upper back. I also propped up my arm in a position that caused the least pain. All the muscle groups I mentioned were freezing up on me and were painful in just about every position. I put my arm on a little leash to sleep in so it could not end up over my head. I slept really well and woke up feeling way better. I think the combination of the pre-bed time massage my wife gave me and the pain meds combined with the fact...

I am going in for 2nd ablation in a few weeks. The doctor said it was necessary now to prevent heart failure from tachycardia. They are going to use general anesthesia instead of light sedation because I had a bad reaction to that last time. Has anyone done an ablation under general? Are they still going to be able to induce tachy with me completely out? I am very nervous because I had so many complications last time!

When the clock says 3:30 pm, I will be into my third day of living with my new Boston Scientific/Guidant model k173 Pacer. The actual procedure took all of about a half an hour. My incision site is surprisingly pain free. My shoulder and neck muscles on the other hand are really sore. I am wear ing an arm sling which I use on and off throughout the day and definitely when I sleep.
The pacer rep. set my lowest pulse at 60 bpm. The reason for my implant was that I passed out 2...

I am 7 days postop with PM still pain in neck arm shoulder and chest. I also have a lot of swelling. It is holiday weekend and MD not on call. Pain a little better than day 1-3 which was awful. Male neighbor said he had little pain. Is it normal to have so much pain and swelling?

hi to all, I am new to the club.. I had my dual pacemaker inserted on Tuesday last - 4 days ago. I suffer from sick sinus syndrome and i was advised my quality of life with a pacemaker would be much better especially being a mum to 3 young kids.
I went in as a day case on Tuesday and I have been in bed in pain since. I was sick after the surgery due to sedation but was walking and mobile. On Wednesday morning, I woke up in extreme pain in my throat and down the core of my chest,proble...

My father who is a robust 85 year old was scheduled for a triple by pass and valve replacement. He was healthy other than his heart which the doctors said was strong. They said that prior to the procedure he was going to get a pacemaker for precautionary measures for his surgery. He had an exterior pacemaker put in and then a regular pacemaker. After the pacemaker was put in they said he had fainted and his blood pressure dropped.
They them put I'm on a respirator and breathing t...

Hi. I had my pacemaker implanted last Wednesday, but I am still experiencing giddiness so I am taking stemetil. Also recovering from the shock of the surgery and getting stronger every day, I am relieved not to be passing out and hoping to get my life back.
Good to read about other people’s experiences helps a lot as there was not much information given to me about what to expect. The medical staff were incredible but not much insight about...

I had a combination defibillator/pacemaker ICD implanted on August 1, 2012. Although I have healed reasonably well I am now experiencing muscle pain in my left shoulder joint close to the incision. Perhaps I am still in the healing process! I have been cleared by the surgeon to go back to cardio rehab but when I saw the surgeon for a check up I was told that one of the wires had to be calibrated because I had raised my arm a little too soon and was given one more week of NOT raising the arm a...

I received my dual PM August 17th. My Post Op is tomorrow and I am a little anxious. Recovery seems to be going fast. My concern is will I be able to have the quality of life I had going in. I am a very active person and likes to work in the yard and garden. I have heard rumors about not being able to use lawn mowers or power equipment. I didn't see anything in the pamphlets.Quess I will have a few questions for the device nurse tomorrow.

I am 8 weeks post op pm. I still do not have much energy. When I try to do activities such as a couple loads of clothes, grocery shopping, or much of anything after work, it totally zapps my energy making me sick. Yesterday I visited my daughter at college a couple of hours away and today I can hardly move. I have a stressful desk job and my energy declines as the week progresses. I am having a sleep study this week but I don't think I have sleep apnea. We will see. I was incorrectly diagnosed f...

Got a St. Jude dual-chamber PM on July 30. Immediately after surgery I was in horrible pain in my shoulder, neck and left arm and numb in my lower left arm. Tylenol 3, morphine and Norco finally helped, and I spent the night in the hospital taking drugs for pain. They checked my lungs and heart to be sure I was OK. I had two babies naturally, so I'm not a baby about pain. This had me crying and shaking totally out of my control. Never experienced anything like it. Startled all the nurses...
