Beta blockers

I turned 70 in March, had a PM implanted in December.  I have SSS, junctional Bradycardia, almost exclusively atrial pacing.

My brother died from a rupture aorta in June 17.  Having checkups related to his condition ultimately led to my diagnosis, with poor exercise performance being my chief complaint.  As far as I knew, the electrical and plumbing problems may not be related, but who knows.

It turns out that my aorta is larger than "normal" , 4cm,...

Pacing

Hi

I have a Pacemaker-ICD implanted and for the second time in 3 months I received a call from the Nurse that my report showed that I had a rapid heart rate but it was paced out.

Both times it paced out I knew I was either running on a treadmill or doing heavy outdoor work (sawing and taking down branches).

Should I stop all strenuous activities or just live with the fact that if I do exert myself, I would get paced out. I would hate to just sit around and try not to in...

Newbie

Hi everyone,

Newbie here.

Was an interesting week, last Monday I fainted while on the treadmill, passed out for less the a minute. Wife took me to the ER as I had CABGx4 last year and was never a fainter.

They did some test, the usual stuff.

On Tuesday the Dr. was thinking an elecrical issue as my bypass was just over a year old, as well as I am a runner and had just completed  half marathon 3 weeks ago.

So he sent me for a stress test, this is where th...

Active Triathlete with 3rd Degree Heart Block

I just got my PM on March 29th, 2019.  I was feeling dizzy on the morning of Mar 26, went to work and just blacked out.  My co-worker told me my head hit the concrete and my safety glasses were 5' behind me when I work up.  At the ER, my EKG heart strip showed a 15-20 sec. 3rd Degree Heart Block episode.  They immediately put on pacer pads and told me I will need a PM and I thought they were out of their minds!

After I was admitted to the Cardio Clinic, all the s...

Four years in

So I'm four plus years into my first PM, Biotronik Eluna-DDR. My doc recommended it because of the rate reponsiveness of the Biotronik technology, CLS, since I am a very active 73 year old (Jogging, gym, skiing). Things have gone pretty well. Each year I push the doc to up my top rate because I seem to (according to my HR watch) be pushing against the upper limit. When running, for  example, I run out of oxygen before my legs get tired. Started at 120, now up to 150. Last t...

Post Procedure Exercise

Just got my pacemaker in 4 days ago. Walked a couple blocks the last 2 days no problem. Walked 3 blocks this morning no problem. Just walked 3 blocks after dinner and was huffing-puffing. Felt heart " fluttering" toward end as well as had pain just above my stomach and right side of chest. Received pacemaker due to heart rate going low and getting lightheaded. Diagnosed with signal block. Had an MRI, Echocardiagram. angiogram etc. and all showed heart good and no blockage in ar...

Cyclist Bradycardia/Tachycardia and working out symptoms

FIt, 63, active.  Got a Medtronic pacemaker iOctober 31, 2018 for bradycardia, low heart rate around 40, have been a runner up to half marathons and always did some resistance and yoga.  Docs always thought low rate and low blood pressure was good and was because I was active.  Switched to cycling due to back issues about 18 mos prior to pacer procedure.   Had a syncope episode, in October, was monitored and had another one resulting in the decision to do the pac...

Choosing a pacemaker that copes with serious cycling?

Retired pathologist, working in Enterprise IT selling £M software packages.

Keen road cyclist, 6years + sick sinus syndrome, given up competitive running (Pilates instead), and my cardiologist has given in and said I can have a pacemaker.  Resting rate about 38, max HR 110bpm which is very limiting.

Apparently some Boston Scientific units support measurement of breathing rate (RightRate-TM) as well as accelerometer for running and swimming.

Anyone with experience...

Pulse rate during exercise

Prior to my implant it would take a prolonged period of jogging for my heart rate to get to 135 bpm. I had my implant 7 weeks ago and apparently my CRT is set to active, but my heart rate gets to my cut off rate of 145 in literally minutes.

Did I get that much out of shape in 8 weeks? Could this be a programming issue? My Doctor tells me my pulse is reacting on its own to the exercise, but this does not feel right.

I would appreciate any insight anyone may have.

Hockey Goalie Additional Chest Protection?

Hey, new to the club, got my Dual Chamber pacemaker on 3/26.  Any of y'all out there a hockey goalie?  I feel like I'm healing up very well and quickly so I'm hopeful to get back on the ice in May but debating if my chest protector is enough protection or if I should be adding some additional padding.  I wore a heart rate monitor for a couple weeks while playing and took a direct shot to the monitor (through the padding of course) and I felt it but it...

Pacemaker stops pacing as I increase intensity of work out

Hi! I started training for marathon last year, it was a gradual slow training process as my trainer knew I have pacemaker. I was also going to the pacemaker clinic several times and they made several tweaks on my pacemaker setting. However, late last year I wasn't able to join the marathon I signed up for because as we started our training for uphill, I noticed I have some fainting episodes. I went back to clinic and they've done a holter monitoring and it showed several SVTs but...

Any guys out there who were training / competing in Martials (Karate, Kick Boxing and Jujitsu).

I won't be competing again, I am interested in how to modify my training sessions.

Advice has been given to me about avoiding impact to my PM area.

I am 2 days in from receiving my PM so only walking for now.

How to know if settings need adjusting (exercise related)

Hi all!  This is my first post but I've read a lot and you all have really helped me through the last few months.  I'm a 38 year old woman who was diagnosed with complete heart block in January and got my PM on Feb 21st.  I have two young boys and I'm a distance runner so not your "typical" PM recipient.  Physically I'm recovering well and mentally/emotionall I have good days and bad regarding acceptance but I know that will take time.  ...

Sensitivity change

I am 6 days post op for CI,have a Biotronik pm. Am scheduled to have sensitivity changed tomorrow from medium to low. How  “sensitive” is such a change, dramatic or subtle? On a low setting, will I be able to undergo strenuous cardio or swimming workouts? Thinking maybe I shouldn’t change setting.

Paced Out with Pacemaker

I received a phone call from someone monitoring my ICD remotely and she said that I "paced out" yesterday at 2pm. I asked her what that meant and she said I had a rapdi heasrtbeat.

I told her I was running on the treadmill and she asked If I experienced anything. I did not. It was also the first time I ran relatively fast (for me) on the treadmill.

The question is what does it mean if I "paced out". Does it mean the EP should increase the upper limit of my pace...

Kite surfing with a pacemaker

Hi, I'm new to the group so sorry if this has been covered before but has anyone out there had experience of kite surfing with a pacemaker?  If so did you have any problems?  I had mine fitted last September and have got back into snowboarding and cycling as well as non-upper body gym work, now I want to get back out on the water.  I have some concerns but feel with a harness will not have any problems.  Just looking for anyones experiences for peace of mind and for my...
