Hi everyone. I have not yet had a PM fitted but I had an implanted loop recorder inserted 2 years ago and my Cardiologist has recommended a PM although not urgently.
I am a 62 year old triathlon coach who has exercised all my life. My resting HR is 32 due to an enlarged heart brought on by endurance sports and it has never caused me any issues until 7 years ago when I fainted unexpectedly. Long story short, it appears that I have a condition called 'Swallow syncope' and specific...

Have not be able to walk outside more than 2 houses from me either direction for over a year now. Tried to walk to the end of the block the other day, but am still shaky and off balance when walking. Can walk from parked van to inside box stores without that problem. Then pushing a cart around without any trouble walking.
Thought the pacemaker would help that, guess not . Implanted Aug 21,2019.

Hi, this is my 3rd post to this forum. I am very pleased that this site even exists and I have a lot of questions. I presently know enough about my PM to be dangerous, lol.
From my earlier posts you will see that I received what I think (not certain) is a Dual Chamber PM roughly 3 weeks ago. It is a Saint Jude PM.
With the holidays and all the confusion, I haven't had much time to analyze my situation. I know I feel a lot...

Hi, may I ask how you all get on with carrying a rucksack on your shoulders when out hiking or any general use? Just dawned on me the ICD is right where the straps go!
I enjoy long walks & used to take a medium sized day pack with food/drinks/survival stuff......cheers Mark

I'm 35 and will be getting my first pacemaker in the near future after five years of irregular heart rhythm related issues have kept me sidelined. I saw older posts on this, but wanted to get some direct input from the community. I have a job that allows me to work from home as needed for my health. I also am a biker and have been missing my bike due to severe symptoms this past month. How quickly can I expect to perform work related tasks on the computer from home? Also, and very i...

I'm thinking of purchasing the iwatch series 5, for several reasons. It has a pulse reader, and can give ekg readouts, a fall monitor and distance running programs. In addition, I used to run wearing a running vest with my iphone in one of the built in pockets. The last time I tried wearing the vest (about one month post PM surgery) the area of the incision became irritated during a 7.5 miler jog. This kind of eliminates running with the vest on and taking the phone with me. Que...

PM implanted Aug. 2019. Prior to that I treated myself to a massage every two weeks. Have been reluctant to get a massage because of the PM. Any tips or advice?
Thank you.

Hi all, a week ago I had a dual chamber ICD fitted as a precaution for my hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Still sore & swollen but getting better everyday & now starting to get some better sleep.
I am a fairly keen cyclist but more social than competitive. A couple of friends & I have already booked a weeks cycling next September on the Camino Trail in Spain. I know i have time to build up slowly to this.

Getting a PM January 2nd for second degree AV block. EP nurse says he puts in Medtronic PM's. I'm not certain if he would put anything different in but am curious from you all what would be the best PM for a 40 year old who enjoys being active. Kayaking, jogging, etc... I have 4 young kids.
thanks

Hello everyone.
I'm cleared to get back into the gym after the New Year. I've read a few posts on PM settings and heart rate. Mine are set at 50 low and 130 high Medtronic dual lead. I asked my cardiologist if this will be fine for working out with cardio and light weight reps. He said yes and that if not, the settings are easily changeable.
Yes, I know this but my questions are:
How will I know if the settings are right for me?
What will I feel if I go above 1...

I am nervously awaiting my VO2 exercise test on Monday. Is it possible to have your VO2 results imrprove over time?
My cadiologist is saying if I score 14 or below, I am a candidate for a transplant. I hate to see so much weight given to one test that is taken. My EF is around 30 and I feel fine.
I dread taking the test.
Trying to come back but not sure to what.

About a month ago a pacemaker was implanted. I was cardioverted 4 days ago. Three days after release from the hospital I did some slow treadmill running. I kept it up until (8 days) several PM recipients and a nurse described in detail what happens if I get an infection. So I stopped. Two days later my doc returned me to running. Only limitations were to not swing my arms to wide because I might dislodge a lead. I ran mostly 5 miles a day and last Thursday I ran 7.5 miles easy with a few stop...

Hi,
I bike for @ an hour on a trainer. During the second half I would experience shortness of breath and my hr dropping into the upper 60's for just a brief period before climbing back up to the 120's. Toward the end it dropped into the 80's and stayed there for 8 minutes.
Admittedly, this is measured by a chest strap and bluetooth, but it seems pretty accurate.
Should I be concerned or is this typical PM behavior?
I'm going to post the abov...

I made my long awaited return to competive racquetball tonight .
ive been playing pick up games and feeling good. I played a guy I normally beat easy. Matches are best two out of three.
game one turned into a dog fight close one .... half way through i was huffing and puffing . Even took an allowed uncharacteristic time out.
i made it through but lost. Game two I truthfully wasn't going too hard because I didn't feel like I could pl...

Hi all,
After a bought of more ilnesses (Restless Leg Syndrome & Sleep Apnoea) I should finally have all my health issues behind me in the New Year, so I was looking into getting back into training and exercise. (FYI, my pacemaker was inserted over 2 years ago)
I used to be very muscly and have now put on quite a bit of fat and I am looking to trim down. But I also love weight lifting and my question is does anyone have any tips on how to weightlift safely with...

Near direct hit with a racquetball tonight - it’s not unusual to get hit usually in the back during a game but I’ve never been hit in the chest !
it was just below the device ..... makes me wonder if I need some type of little pad to protect it ?
Anyone know of anything like that ?
Catchers chest protector ???

I went for a bike ride this evening and pushed my heart rate up to 145 BPM going up a hill. In less than 3 minutes I was on the bottom of the hill and my rate dropped to 52 BPM. During the entire ride leading up to the drop I was averaging 105 to 110 BPM. Anybody else encounter pacemaker issues when first excersing?
