lead healing process

Hi everyone. My ICD is doing a good job so far, but I unfortunately have to go through the procedure again next Friday to reset one of the leads in my heart (the atrial lead has lost most of the connection voltage). The doctors say it wasn't due to anything I did... the lead just didn't settle in the position it was placed.
I'm looking for some advice about the recovery process.
- I have been very careful not to lift my elbow above shoulder height.
- I have also been ve...

1St Official Workout this AM!

I decided to go the route of all dumbbells...not because I'm one! I felt that there would be more flexibility and control. I used an old York Barbell Chart. I started with 5lb dumbbells...real light for me and a long way from my 300lb. bench press. Was an enjoyable session. Checked pulse OK in the 70's. 8 reps appx. 10 exercises. I will add a rep each AM then at 12 increase the weight.

Running With Pacemker - Leads and Connections

Running With Pacemaker

Hello, I had a Dual Ventricular Pacemaker implanted on August 28, 2009. It has been approximately 3 weeks since the implant. My condition was Stage 2 WenkeBlock or AV blockage. The type of pacemaker implanted had 3 leads into my heart. Two of the leads were screwed in and the third was laid in a vein in a coil position. The cardiology center I am dealing with on my pacemaker has not dealt with runners much before in the past and I can only get limited infor...

pullovers, flyes

Are these ok? I am now 5 weeks post-op. I had a pacer implanted while on vacation emergency style. The doc here is so nonchalant, at week three he said I could do anything I wanted, weights and all. Only thing he said was he would frown on my using a jack-hammer.(No danger of that!)

I'd love to go ahead and do like he says, but I have these visions of the leads ripping out of my heart as I do a nice stretch with my flyes! I remember at the hospital one of the docs telling me my weight...

Lucas and snowbroading

Hi Everyone,

My son is 5 years old and has had a pacemaker since he was 3 months old. He is a little jock - go figure. Currently his pacemaker is implanted in his stomac. This winter I was hoping to teach both my boys snowbroading.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

p.s. perhaps there is protective gear that he can wear.

The Perfect Pushup

I was doing hundreds of these...The device w/handles that rotate, designed and used by a Navy Seal(s). Just a basic pushup w/rotataion. Love these things. It was advertised As Seen On TV. I bought at KMart. Anybody doing these? Do you think they are safe with PM? As always, your comments are appreciated!

Exceeding upper limit

Hey New member, I've had my pacemaker for 2 weeks now and have been given the go ahead to work out a little (exercise bike, elliptical), legs no arm stuff.

I have second degree heart bock and my pacemaker is set with an upper limit of 140. I noticed today my heart rate crept above 140 by the monitor on the bike. When i felt my pulse it was hard to count, seemed slow and real erratic. Once it slowed down a little it stabilized and kicked in fast with about 120 or so rate.

Weight Training!

I have viewed my pacer implant as "training around an injury"! Any experienced weightmen out there know what I mean. For those who don't you simply train around the affected area. Has anyone tried this? For example...Dumbbell presses on the side w/out the pacer, wrist curls, bicep curls, leg work, etc.. Yes, I'm waiting...5/wks now. But am ready to go. Any comments?

PM and Swimming Techniques

I checked the older posts but didn't find anything specific about: Does having a PM prohibits improving on techniques, such as stretching far ahead with arm while doing free, fly, or back? I was working on that before having PM fitted more than a week ago.

Has anyone been really reaching far out ahead with the PM side arm in swimming after having PM?

PM crashing during exercise

My dual chamber PM regularly but randomly crashes during exercise. For example, I will get my heart rate up somewhere between 90 and 130 and then it will suddenly crash down to somewhere between 45 and 68 beats where it will stay for about 30 seconds before suddenly kicking in again somewhere over 110. Has anyone else experienced this or had it diagnosed?

Wt Training

Bench press? I do it with care after warm ups cardio, stretching, core exercises Twists with a 25-35 # plate. I usually press up to 125 for 5 reps and repeat 3-4 sets. I have done more wt. but don't need to and why press my luck. Besides I compete in the shotput and shorter bursts with lighter wt. is more productive. In 1956 I bought my Ist YORK Barbell jacket. Dont have it now but trips thru York Pa. bring back fond memories and stories of yesteryear in weight lifting. How about that Paul Ande...

My 12 yo just got a pm- help!

My superactive soccer-obsessed 12 yo daughter just got an epicardial pacemaker this week. The surgeon did a pretty good job with a subxiphoid placement and we'd love for her to keep playing. It is the only thing she is passionate about and she is pretty good- we would just really hate to say she can't play- it would devastate her. Any thoughts- any experience? She is NOT pacemaker dependent although we realize if it broke they'd have to go in again. So- she doesn't play OR she wears a protector...
