It feels like a distant memory but over a couple of months have past since my pacemaker was fitted and I'm now doing a couch to 5K running regime along with a some bike rides.
I've not pushed my heart to pre-implant levels yet, I am going to wait until I have a definite appointment with the cardiologist before I do that.
It's so tempting though to push it as I had run my fastest mile in many years (5mins 19secs) a few months before my PM was fitted but I know sta...

I have had my PM since 9/2019. I am 66 and prior to was in elite shape. I could easily run 10 miles. Now I struggle with 2. During the preceeding two years prior to 2019 I occassionally experienced EXTREME fatigue (once every three months) during intense exercise. I discovered in stress tests that it was 2/1 heart block. My EP said a PM would 'fix this'. After the PM, I have regularly experienced 2/1 heart block during exericse (once or twice a...

I hav a pacemaker for 2 years. I'm 84 years old.
Prior to my PM insertion I was a life long exercise enthusiast, (resistance, weight trainer).
I spoke to my cardio doc about resuming light weightlifting using 3 lb dumbels.
He preferred other forms of exercise, like walking, swimming.
but kind of frowned when it came to weight lifting.
I decided to disregard his advice and proceeded to start light weight training last August .
I'm bac...

Hello Everyone ! I am 66 years old and have had a PM for 13months . I have had a very active life playing sports and working out etc. When I work out certain motions make my heart rate shoot up to about 120. Example, pushups or a short sprint. I am able to walk at a fast pace for 40 min and my pulse may get above 90. Most other exercises have little or no effect. Early on, rolling over in bed would make my pulse go up also . When I am on a treadmill walking at f...

Hi All, I could use some guidance and advice. I've had my St. Jude for about 6 weeks. It was placed over, and the leads tied to, the left pectoralis, very near my axilla (arm pit). I have serious ortho issues (alignment, posture) that I've kept at bay with Pilates and after years reached a very advanced level of Pilates (reformer and chair) with amazing results. Today I showed my doc pics of typical moves and was told I shouldn't do them as I could rip the...

I had a Biotronik PM implanted yesterday(Edora 8 DR-T) I hope this message finds Mark. I was reading a post by Mark (by darmaggi 2020-11-10 16:14:11) Mark, I read in your post that you found a good Technician to adjust your PM . Would you mind sharing his name and how to reach him? How did you find him? I'm a serious runner and hope to maintain or improve my level of performance. I'd appreciate your help.

I am a healthy 64 Golf fanatic with a very active lifestyle that had a Pacemaker implanted 31/2 weeks ago. My cardiologist suggested that I could return to full Golf activities after 4 weeks. So far everything has gone well and I have been able to swing 1/2 speed with no issues. I am a 6 Index Golfer with a near 100mph driver swing speed.
My question is does anybody else have expierience playing Golf after 4 weeks? Most of the posts I see on this Fourm seem to su...

So I visited my doctor that handles my interrogation of my pacemaker(I dont know if they are called EP)last week and advised me not to do upper body exercises like push ups and pull ups since they flex and extend my shoulder and could make leads bend and cause wear and tears on them, my doctor said it would cause the leads to be dislodge, it isnt a high chance but theres a possibility. Though people in these forum encourage me not to worry and its ok to do these and I'm grateful and happy...

So My pacemaker was implanted for more than a year before I started working out. I was happy and gain more confidence in myself when I started because never in my 20 years of life I would be doing exercises for myself, in the past years all I do is sit or lie down playing games and whatnot and I was happy to make a change for myself. Months later I started seeing progress especially the gains of muscle. Sadly after my next check up on my doctor advised me not do to push and pull exercise with...

Hi!!
I've had my pacemaker for 1 year, I'm unsure as to whether I need my settings looked at, or I just need to improve my fitness 🤣
Is there an easy way to tell if 'rate response' has been activated?
I gather that helps keep the device in tune with what your body needs through exercise?
Any feedback is welcome, with the way things are, all outpatients appointments are waaaaaaay behind at the minute so a bit of advice would be great!!
Shortness of Breath on starting to exercise

Just thought I would pass on some information to all those people that have shortness of breath starting their exercise.
I mentioned to my cardiologist (one of three) that I was wondering whether my hypertrophic cardiomyopathy ( thickening of the heart muscle) was responsible for my shortness of breath on initiating exercise ( the heart muscle is known to be 'stiff' [lacking compliance] with this condition). The result was a referral to have my PM settings checked. Yesterda...

I'll be getting a defibrillator soon. I'm 61 and have been into exercising since I was 16. Since I'm older now, I do lighter weights, more repetitions. I keep hearing conflicting things, no more weight lifting at all, lighter weight, more reps are OK and on and on. It is very important to be to keep my body tight and defined. I can't stand the thought of quitting. Tell me about what you all know about all that. Ralph

At times my fitbit will quit registering HR and show --------, it coincides with unusually high HR for short time. Like 180+. I don't know if myHR really goes up that high or if it is a fitbit error! I am being monitored by a Vector device daily so am hoping it would show up on that. Has anyone else had that problem? I have had PM for 2 years now and no apparent problems. Thanks

I have been running (jogging) and am trying to increase my endurance and pace so that I can complete a 10k. I have found running late in life, after I got my CRT-P about 18 months ago due to a heart rate of 30. I was in atrial flutter, had an ablation which resulted in a Wenkebach. I have lost 40 pounds and run/jog 3-4 a week. My EP refuses to increase my maximum HR above 140, based solely on my age.I have had a stress test and show no signs of ischemia. I use a Garmin watch to time my...

Hi,
Firstly, I want to express how much finding this group has helped me to not feel alone and to remind me to stay positive.
I had a PM implanted 2 weeks ago (went into 3rd degree HB shortly after aortic valve replacement surgery). I got on the treadmill yesterday hoping that now that I have this great new valve compared to my old one that was severely stenotic (although I had very few symptoms with the original valve) and now that the PM is controlling my HR that I should...

I'm having a CRT-D in January and just wondering if others have seen much improvement in their Ejection Fraction afterwards. My EF is down to 15% from 30% 12 months ago, probably from several episodes of Atrial flutter and just getting back to 30% would do me.

Hi everyone!
I've posted about backpacking here before, but I'm back with a new issue! I got my pacemaker placed in Feb 2020 at 23 years old. Due to my age (and for cosmetic reasons) my EP put my pacemaker further to the left than normal, and under my muscle (sitting directly under a backpack strap). I am a big hiker/backpacker, but only got to go on 2 trips this year (both under 50 miles each, 2-4 nights). For each trip my pack was pretty light as I nev...
