I’m scheduled to have my thyroid gland removed on October 31st (Halloween) and have a pre-op visit on October 10th. Since I’m 100% paced with a dual chamber pacemaker, I’ve been told there are some concerns about the effects of the anesthesia on my heart.
Another concern is the use of the electronic knife (electrocautery) during surgery, as it will be close to my pacemaker leads. To address this, the hospital is bringing in another surgeon and my cardiac doctor for add...

I recently had my pacemaker procedure on 9/10 and found out this week I have a hematoma at the insertion site. Wondering if any idea on how long this will take to heal and suggestions for the issue. I am still taking Tylenol regularly for pain and area has heavy bruising on my arm and chest area. Used ice the first week but stopped when I found hematoma on my 8 day visit.
pacemaker was needed after my TvAR procedure was completed in August so has been a heart building puzzle this s...

7 weeks post surgery and for the most part, I am feeling better, more like myself. Several adjustments have been made to address sudden spikes in heart rate, mostly early morning. It happens so quickly, I just sit down for a minute, it goes back down in about a minute.
when I exercise, my heart increases as it should when exercising, so the other is a mystery.
Sometimes when I bend over it seems to initiate the spike, sometimes it just happens.
I have a dual lead...

My father is trying to set up an appointment for pacemaker lead revision consultation in UCSF. I was told there is no physician doing this procedure in UCSF and they have a provider from Veteran Hospital coming one day in a month to do surgery. I would like to know if anyone experience similiar situation that the provider works in a hospital that you can not become a patient of and any drawback of this situation? Also I can not believe the physicians from such a big hospital d...

Hi everyone
My name is Anne. I am feeling quite low. I had my pacemaker implanted almost 4 weeks ago and to be honest, it hasn't really done much for me. I had 2 heart valves replaced last year In June 2023 (aortic and mitral) and since that operation I have struggled terribly. I am relatively young at 48. I had mantle radiation treatment when I was 18, hence the valve replacements. Directly after the operation and ever since, I have struggled walking any distance (100m+) or incline...

Very happy to join the pacemaker club. I am a 52-year-old male, I just had a single chamber pacemaker implanted in my ventricle a week ago.
I previously had a heart bypass 3 years ago and also had 5 stents before. The indication for pacemaker installation was bradycardia with complaints of frequent dizziness and feeling like I was going to faint. EF 62%
Please share your experience, is it normal to feel a bit tired and dizzy for a week after the implant? Is this part of the r...

wondered if any in the forum experience this. When I am sitting down or in a stationery position, I tend to doze off for a period of 10-20 minutes.
This does not happen when I am standing or driving or concentrating on an object of activity. I am not experiencing this at all.
I am currently taking valsarten and not a high dose.
This does not happen when I am driving or anything like that. It is more when I am reading or looking at th...

My father's pacemaker (metronic) set the heart rate threshold to be 60/min. Recently, he noticed it has below 60 heart beat, even some in 40s. He used oximeter to measure it. But the lower heart rate does not last long. His pacemaker has short v-v intervals for over 300 instances during the last two years. So he suspected the pacemaker has issues. Plus he felt congested chest. So he went to emergency room and the doctor download the pacemaker data and did not see any issues. T...

Hi
I was just wondering if any of you use magnets provided by your providers for any urgent /emergent situations where you can not access medical care like in remote areas or while on travel! I'm not talking about terminating arrhythmias like PMTs or RNRVAS which you would need to diagnose first on a rhythm strip before using the magnet, but for checking battery life or for recording 2 min EGM with symptoms without changing the pacing rate. I understand there is a setting for m...

Hello to this group - this is my first posting.
I recieved my Medtronic PM May 20 so I am almost 4 months post-surgery. I have an Azure dual lead for second degree heart block. I am not on any heart medications. Overall I have recovered great and am doing well. I am super active so I have had adjustments to allow me to workout as I like.
My issue is that I CONSTANTLY feel like I have a full head... like I am in a cloud. I would explain it as just feeling wo...

Just wondering as I have 3rd degree heart block dual chamber pacer and two stents. My last echocardiogram and stress test was three years ago. Is there a time schedule to have echocardiograms? I do have pacer checks every 6 months and 24-hour monitoring by my bed.

Would like to know if anyone has had both ablations at the same time for Fibriliation and Flutter:
It's been 1 1/2 weeks since I had an ablation for both Atrial Fibrillation/Artial Flutter. I was under for a couple hours and 6 hours recovery. I felt pretty good on Wed. evening after the 6 hours so I went home. I felt fine on Thursday and Friday but Saturday and Sunday I had some nausa and a low grade frever. My heart did not hurt but my thrroat w...
I feel sad :-(
I'm almost 6 weeks post PM now and I feel so sad all the time.
I'm in constant pain, having to take hefty doses of codeine to function somedays and I currently just feel like, what's the point.
Have a review in a few weeks due to the pain but nobody will see me before, as they've looked at photos and said my wound looks fine and reburial could cause an infection. My PM is very protruding and the pain is like nothing I've ever experienced (I've had kidney st...

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum and just joined not because I have a pacemaker, but because my electrophysiologist has suggested one as a treatment option for me. While I wait for his response to my questions via email, I'm researching and asking people who've been through getting a pacemaker for AFib will probably be very helpful.
I read a couple of comments from a few years ago here and the experience does sound rather scary. I wonder if those people are...

I am 6 weeks post surgery and have been cleared to resume normal activities.
What is the concensus on using a weedeater? The AMA has them listed as ok but I want to be sure.
TIA
